2.23 GHz gating InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche diode for quantum key distribution

open access: yes, 2010
We implement an InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) for single-photon detection with the fastest gating frequency reported so far, of 2.23 GHz, which approaches the limit given by the bandwidth of the SPAD - 2.5 GHz.

Gated Communities [PDF]

open access: yesGeography Compass, 2008
Abstract This article examines the notion of gated communities and, more generally, privately governed urban neighbourhoods. We do this by reviewing the idea that they are an innovative built‐environment genre that has spread globally from a diverse set of roots and influences. These include the mass growth of private urban government

Inducing ferromagnetism and Kondo effect in platinum by paramagnetic ionic gating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Electrically controllable magnetism, which requires the field-effect manipulation of both charge and spin degrees of freedom, has attracted growing interests since the emergence of spintronics.

The Role of Working Memory Gating in Task Switching: A Procedural Version of the Reference-Back Paradigm

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2017
Models of working memory (WM) suggest that the contents of WM are separated from perceptual input by a gate, that enables shielding information against interference when closed, and allows for rapid updating when open.

Structural basis for gating the high conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channel

open access: yesNature, 2016
The precise control of an ion channel gate by environmental stimuli is crucial for the fulfilment of its biological role. The gate in Slo1 K+ channels is regulated by two separate stimuli, intracellular Ca2+ concentration and membrane voltage.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Ambipolar transport in bulk crystals of a topological insulator by gating with ionic liquid

open access: yes, 2012
We report that the ionic-liquid gating of bulk single crystals of a topological insulator can control the type of the surface carriers and even results in ambipolar transport. This was made possible by the use of a highly bulk-insulating BiSbTeSe2 system

A Non-canonical Voltage-Sensing Mechanism Controls Gating in K2P K+ Channels

open access: yesCell, 2016
Summary Two-pore domain (K2P) K+ channels are major regulators of excitability that endow cells with an outwardly rectifying background “leak” conductance.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Molecular and Evolution In Silico Studies Unlock the h4-HPPD C-Terminal Tail Gating Mechanism

open access: yesBiomedicines
The enzyme 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (4-HPPD) is involved in the catabolism of the amino acid tyrosine in organisms such as bacteria, plants, and animals.
