Characterisation of the biflavonoid hinokiflavone as a pre-mRNA splicing modulator that inhibits SENP

open access: yeseLife, 2017
We have identified the plant biflavonoid hinokiflavone as an inhibitor of splicing in vitro and modulator of alternative splicing in cells. Chemical synthesis confirms hinokiflavone is the active molecule.

Quantitative model for inferring dynamic regulation of the tumour suppressor gene p53 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: The availability of various "omics" datasets creates a prospect of performing the study of genome-wide genetic regulatory networks. However, one of the major challenges of using mathematical models to infer genetic regulation from microarray ...

NRF2 pathway activation by KEAP1 inhibition attenuates the manifestation of aging phenotypes in salivary glands

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2020
Saliva plays an essential role in the maintenance of oral health. The oral cavity environment changes during aging mainly due to alterations in the secretion and composition of saliva.

Intestinal gene expression in pigs: effects of reduced feed intake during weaning and potential impact of dietary components

open access: yes, 2011
The weaning transition is characterised by morphological, histological and microbial changes, often leading to weaning-associated disorders. These intestinal changes can partly be ascribed to the lack of luminal nutrition arising from the reduced feed ...

Activation of the NRF2 pathway in Keap1-knockdown mice attenuates progression of age-related hearing loss

open access: yesnpj Aging and Mechanisms of Disease, 2020
Age-related hearing loss (AHL) is a progressive sensorineural hearing loss in elderly people. Although no prevention or treatments have been established for AHL, recent studies have demonstrated that oxidative stress is closely related to pathogenesis of

Regulation of virulence gene expression [PDF]

open access: yesVirulence, 2014
The bacterial pathogen that finds itself, either by accident or design, within the human or animal host, senses and adapts to the prevailing conditions by modulating its gene expression on a global...

The use of general and specific combining abilities in a context of gene expression relevant to plant breeding

open access: yes, 2008
Many common traits are believed to be a composite reflection of multiple genetic and environmental factors. Recent advances suggest that subtle variations in the regulation of gene expression may contribute to quantitative traits.

Nuclear Photosynthetic Gene Expression Is Synergistically Modulated by Rates of Protein Synthesis in Chloroplasts and Mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Arabidopsis thaliana mutants prors1-1 and -2 were identified on the basis of a decrease in effective photosystem II quantum yield. Mutations were localized to the 5'-untranslated region of the nuclear gene PROLYL-tRNA SYNTHETASE1 (PRORS1), which acts in ...

TcZC3HTTP, a regulatory element that contributes to Trypanosoma cruzi cell proliferation

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression is a critical process for adapting to and surviving Trypanosoma cruzi, a parasite with a complex life cycle.
