Epigenetic Changes in Tumor Suppressor Genes, P15, P16, APC-3 and E-cadherin in Body Fluid

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2007
The inactivation of tumor suppressor genes by promoter methylation plays an important role in the development of cancers; it can also be used as a marker to distinguish cancerous cells from non-cancer cells.

Cancer stemness in Apc- vs. Apc/KRAS-driven intestinal tumorigenesis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Constitutive activation of the Wnt pathway leads to adenoma formation, an obligatory step towards intestinal cancer. In view of the established role of Wnt in regulating stemness, we attempted the isolation of cancer stem cells (CSCs) from Apc- and Apc ...

Mutations in APC, CTNNB1 and K-ras genes and expression of hMLH1 in sporadic colorectal carcinomas from the Netherlands Cohort Study

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2005
BackgroundThe early to intermediate stages of the majority of colorectal tumours are thought to be driven by aberrations in the Wnt (APC, CTNNB1) and Ras (K-ras) pathways. A smaller proportion of cancers shows mismatch repair deficiency.

Roles of tumor suppressors in regulating tumor-associated inflammation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Loss or silencing of tumor suppressors (TSs) promotes neoplastic transformation and malignant progression. To date, most work on TS has focused on their cell autonomous effects.

MYH Gene Status in Polish FAP Patients without APC Gene Mutations [PDF]

open access: yesHereditary Cancer in Clinical Practice, 2006
Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) is an inheritable predisposition for the occurrence of numerous polyps in the large intestine. In about 50% of all patients, the occurrence of the disease is conditioned by heterozygotic mutations of the APC gene. Screening for genetic factors in persons without mutations in the APC gene led to the identification of

Role of APC and DNA mismatch repair genes in the development of colorectal cancers

open access: yesMolecular Cancer, 2003
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cause of cancer-related death in both men and women in the western hemisphere. According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 105,500 new cases of colon cancer with 57,100 deaths will occur in the U.S ...

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

Distinguishing between cancer driver and passenger gene alteration candidates via cross-species comparison: a pilot study

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2010
Background We are developing a cross-species comparison strategy to distinguish between cancer driver- and passenger gene alteration candidates, by utilizing the difference in genomic location of orthologous genes between the human and other mammals.
