Brazilian Plasmodium falciparum isolates: investigation of candidate polymorphisms for artemisinin resistance before introduction of artemisinin-based combination therapy

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2010
Background This study was performed to better understand the genetic diversity of known polymorphisms in pfatpase6 and pfmdr1 genes before the introduction of ACT in Brazil, in order to get a genotypic snapshot of Plasmodium falciparum parasites that may

Nef-induced differential gene expression in primary CD4+ T cells following infection with HIV-1 isolates

open access: yesVirus Genes, 2019
Almost 80% of viral transcripts during early HIV-1 infection encode the Nef protein, which has been implicated in altering expression of a number of genes. In this study, we infected primary human CD4+ T cells with pseudotyped Nef-containing or Nef-deleted (Δ-nef) NL4-3 virus and used RNA-Sequencing (RNA-Seq) for transcriptomic analysis.

microRNA-422a promotes HIV replication and innate immune evasion by targeting MECP2

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids
Understanding the mechanisms underlying interferon-alpha (IFNα) anti-human immunodeficiency virus type I (HIV-1) effects and HIV-1 innate immune evasion is critical to developing improved antiviral strategies.
