Breeding Low Emitting Ruminants: Predicting Methane from Microbes

open access: yesProceedings, 2020
The greatest source of global anthropogenic methane (CH4) emissions is from ruminant livestock. Multiple mitigation strategies in livestock are currently being explored.

Genome-wide SNP discovery and population structure analysis in pepper (Capsicum annuum) using genotyping by sequencing

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2016
Knowledge on population structure and genetic diversity in vegetable crops is essential for association mapping studies and genomic selection. Genotyping by sequencing (GBS) represents an innovative method for large scale SNP detection and genotyping of ...

The C‐terminal region of KIF26B is indispensable for nephron progenitor condensation and kidney formation in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KIF26B plays an important role in kidney development. We engineered mice lacking the C‐terminal region of KIF26B and found severe kidney defects, including bilateral renal agenesis, similar to full Kif26b knockout mice. The mutation disrupted nephron progenitor condensation and reduced Gdnf‐Wnt11 signaling, showing that the KIF26B C‐terminal region is ...

Nested Association Mapping of Stem Rust Resistance in Wheat Using Genotyping by Sequencing

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
We combined the recently developed genotyping by sequencing (GBS) method with joint mapping (also known as nested association mapping) to dissect and understand the genetic architecture controlling stem rust resistance in wheat (Triticum aestivum).

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Genome‐Wide Association Mapping of Fusarium Head Blight Resistance in Wheat using Genotyping‐by‐Sequencing

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, 2016
Fusarium head blight (FHB) is one of the most important wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) diseases worldwide, and host resistance displays complex genetic control.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.
