Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism, 2019
BACKGROUND:The glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is a multifaceted hormone with broad pharmacological potential. Among the numerous metabolic effects of GLP-1 are the glucose-dependent stimulation of insulin secretion, decrease of gastric emptying, inhibition of food intake, increase of natriuresis and diuresis, and modulation of rodent β-cell ...

Glucagon-like peptide-1, glucagon-like peptide-2, and lipid metabolism [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Lipidology, 2016
Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is the best known incretin hormone able to potentiate glucose-induced insulin secretion. Moreover, GLP-1 is currently under intensive investigation as a potential crucial mediator of beneficial metabolic effects after bariatric surgery, because of its eating inhibitory, antiobesity, and antidiabetes effects.

Gastrointestinal peptides in children before and after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2020
Background Gastrointestinal tract function and it’s integrity are controlled by a number of peptides whose secretion is influenced by severe inflammation. In stomach the main regulatory peptide is ghrelin.

Glucagon‐like peptides activate hepatic gluconeogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1987
Piscine (anglerfish, catfish, coho salmon) glucagon‐like peptides (GLPs), applied at 3.5 nM, stimulate (1.1–1.9‐fold) flux through gluconeogenesis above control levels in isolated trout and salmon hepatocytes. Human GLP‐1 and GLP‐2 also activate gluconeogenesis, but to a lesser degree than their piscine counterparts.

Polymorphic amyloid nanostructures of hormone peptides involved in glucose homeostasis display reversible amyloid formation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
A large group of hormones are stored as amyloid fibrils in acidic secretion vesicles before they are released into the bloodstream and readopt their functional state.

A walnut-containing meal had similar effects on early satiety, CCK, and PYY, but attenuated the postprandial GLP-1 and insulin response compared to a nut-free control meal. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Regular nut consumption is associated with lower adiposity and reduced weight gain in adulthood. Walnut feeding studies have observed minimal effect on body weight despite potential additional energy intake.

The sleeping beauty: how reproductive diapause affects hormone signaling, metabolism, immune response and somatic maintenance in Drosophila melanogaster. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Some organisms can adapt to seasonal and other environmental challenges by entering a state of dormancy, diapause. Thus, insects exposed to decreased temperature and short photoperiod enter a state of arrested development, lowered metabolism, and ...

How glucagon-like is glucagon-like peptide-1? [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetologia, 1984
Although glucagon-like peptide-1 has the appearance of a glucagon-homologue that may be co-secreted with glucagon, synthetic glucagon-like peptide-1-(1-37) does not significantly affect plasma glucose and insulin concentrations when administered at high doses (100 and 400 micrograms) to cortisone-pretreated rabbits.

Distribution and characterisation of Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor expressing cells in the mouse brain. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
© 2015 The Authors. Objective: Although Glucagon-like peptide 1 is a key regulator of energy metabolism and food intake, the precise location of GLP-1 receptors and the physiological relevance of certain populations is debatable.

Intra-islet GLP-1, but not CCK, is necessary for β-cell function in mouse and human islets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and cholecystokinin (CCK) are gut-derived peptide hormones known to play important roles in the regulation of gastrointestinal motility and secretion, appetite, and food intake.
