The Grass Carp

1997
The grass carp model is a large one. It combines insight from the herbivore-algae model discussed in the previous chapter with the need for human management of the predator-prey releationships. A management practice known as biomanipulation has sprung from the idea of manipulating predator-prey relationships and is gaining popularity among lake ...

Non-pathogenic grass carp reovirus infection leads to both apoptosis and autophagy in a grass carp cell line

Fish & Shellfish Immunology, 2022
A novel GCRV strain isolated from healthy grass carp was named as grass carp reovirus - HH196 (GCRV-HH196), and its infection mechanism remains unclear. In this study, the grass carp ovary cell line (GCO cells) was used to investigate the cell death involved in GCRV-HH196 infection.

Triploid Grass Carp Production

The Progressive Fish-Culturist, 1987
Abstract Triploid grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) were produced by application of various cold or heat shocks to the eggs at different time intervals after addition of water to the milt-roe mixture and for varying durations. Up to 87% of grass carp produced were triploids.

Characterization of grass carp CD40 and CD154 genes and the association between their polymorphisms and resistance to grass carp reovirus

Fish & Shellfish Immunology, 2018
In bony fish, CD40 and CD154 are two very important costimulatory molecules involved in T and B cell cooperation in thymus-dependent antibody production. In the current study, we identified the cDNAs of CD40 and CD154 and analyzed their genomic structures in grass carp.

Genomic structure of grass carp Mx2 and the association of its polymorphisms with susceptibility/resistance to grass carp reovirus

Molecular Immunology, 2011
Mx (myxovirus-resistant) proteins are induced by interferon and inhibit viral replication in many vertebrates. In the present study, the organization of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) Mx2 (CiMx2) gene sequence was elucidated and its single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were investigated to explore their association with susceptibility ...

Molecular cloning of the MARCH family in grass carp ( Ctenopharyngodon idellus ) and their response to grass carp reovirus challenge

Fish & Shellfish Immunology, 2017
Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) is an economical aquaculture species in China, and the Grass Carp Reovirus (GCRV) that causes hemorrhagic disease seriously affects the grass carp cultivation industry. Substantial evidence indicates that there is an association between the membrane-associated RING-CH family of E3 ligase (MARCH) family and immune ...

The grass carp for weed control

Hydrobiological Bulletin, 1975
The agricultural and recreational use of waterways is decreased by a too luxurous growth of various species of aquatic plants. Weed control has to be carried out at least once every year. The old-fashioned hand-cutting has nearly been abandoned, due to shortage of manpower and high costs.

Serodiagnosis of grass carp reovirus infection in grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella by a novel Western blot technique

Journal of Virological Methods, 2013
Frequent outbreaks of grass carp hemorrhagic disease, caused by grass carp reovirus (GCRV) infection, pose as serious threats to the production of grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella. Although various nucleic acids-based diagnostic methods have been shown effective, lack of commercial monoclonal antibody against grass carp IgM has impeded the ...
