Further diversity in the origins of fish antifreeze proteins
Shifts in environmental conditions can impose strong selection for adaptive traits. During the Cenozoic era, as the oceans cooled, many marine teleost fish species were at risk of freezing. This led to the independent emergence of distinct ice‐binding antifreeze proteins (AFPs).

Suppression of RNA interference pathway in vitro by Grass carp reovirus
The means of survival of genomic dsRNA of reoviruses from dsRNA-triggered and Dicer-initiated RNAi pathway remains to be defined. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of Grass carp reovirus (GCRV) replication on the RNAi pathway of grass carp kidney cells (CIK).

Molecular characterization of nonstructural protein NS38 of grass carp reovirus
Viral nonstructural proteins in both enveloped and non-enveloped viruses play important roles in viral replication. Protein NS38 of Grass carp reovirus (GCRV), has been deduced to be a non-structural protein, and, consistent with other reoviruses, is considered to cooperate with the NS80 protein in viral particle assembly.

An improved RT-PCR assay for rapid and sensitive detection of grass carp reovirus [PDF]
An improved simple, rapid and sensitive method for detecting grass carp reovirus (GCRV) based on RT-PCR was developed by combining an advanced RNA extraction technique and targeting segment 10 as a template.

Signatures of dysbiosis in fish microbiomes in the context of aquaculture
Fish gut microbiome is highly susceptible to salinity changes and antimicrobial treatments, whereas external microbiomes seem to be more susceptible to disease and variations in temperature. Treatments with tetracyclines and florfenicol, as well as bacterial diseases, prompt severe dysbiosis, whereas quinolones, disinfectants and parasitic diseases ...

Establishment of a rare minnow (Gobiocypris rarus) model for evaluation of experimental vaccines against a disease induced by grass carp reovirus genotype II [PDF]
Vaccination is the most effective way to control the grass carp haemorrhagic disease (GCHD) with the primary pathogen grass carp reovirus genotype II (GCRV-II). However, due to the large difference in breeding conditions and unclear genetic background of
