Oral Microbiota of Children Is Conserved across Han, Tibetan and Hui Groups and Is Correlated with Diet and Gut Microbiota

open access: yes, 2021
The oral microbiota can be affected by several factors; however, little is known about the relationship between diet, ethnicity and commensal oral microbiota among school children living in close geographic proximity.

Sex-dependent effects of a high fat diet on metabolic disorders, intestinal barrier function and gut microbiota in mouse

open access: yesScientific Reports
Obesity is often associated with sex-dependent metabolic complications, in which altered intestinal barrier function and gut microbiota contribute. We aimed to characterize in mice the sex-dependent effects of a high fat diet on these parameters.

Intestinal epithelial TLR4 knock out induces sex-specific effects on gut barrier and microbiome in an activity-based anorexia model

open access: yesGut Microbes
The role of the microbiota‒gut‒brain axis in the pathophysiology of anorexia nervosa has emerged in recent decades. Increased expression of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) has been reported in the intestinal epithelial cells (IEC) of activity-based anorexia (

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Obesity, Early Life Gut Microbiota, and Antibiotics

open access: yes, 2021
Obesity is a major public health problem that continues to be one of the leading risk factors for premature death. Early life is a critical period of time when the gut microbiota and host metabolism are developing in tandem and significantly contribute ...

Gut microbiota in obesity

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastroenterology, 2021
Obesity is a major global health problem determined by heredity and environment, and its incidence is increasing yearly. In recent years, increasing evidence linking obesity to the gut microbiota has been reported. Gut microbiota management has become a new method of obesity treatment.

Synthesis of lipoic acid ferulate and evaluation of its ability to preserve fish oil from oxidation during accelerated storage

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X, 2023
Lipoic acid ferulate (LAF) was synthesized and its anti-free radical ability in vitro was determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonicacid) (ABTS) assays. Protective effects of LAF in stabilizing

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Gut microbiota and tuberculosis

open access: yesiMeta
AbstractTuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), remains a significant global health challenge. Recent advancements in gut microbiota (GM) research have shed light on the intricate relationship between GM and TB, suggesting that GM alterations may influence host susceptibility, disease progression, and response to antituberculosis
