Background Fluoroquinolones are broad-spectrum antibiotics that are recommended, and increasingly important, for the treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Resistance to fluoroquinolones is caused by mutations in the Quinolone Resistance

ABSTRACT Aims Accurate diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection is required to detect active infection, confirm eradication, assess gastric pathology when indicated, and obtain antimicrobial resistance information that may guide treatment. This review evaluates the clinical roles, limitations, and implementation maturity of established, molecular ...

Study of Mutations in the DNA gyrase gyrA Gene of Escherichia coli.
Quinolones are a large and widely consumed class of synthetic drugs. Expanded-spectrum quinolones, like ciprofloxacin are highly effective against Gram-negative bacteria, especially Escherichia coli. In E. coli the major target for quinolones is DNA gyrase.

Characterisation of Haemolytic Uropathogenic Escherichia coli Isolated From Dogs and Cats
The present study characterises 51 canine and feline haemolytic E. coli isolates from urinary tract infections by a polyphasic approach, including susceptibility testing, CH‐clonotyping, and DNA microarrays. The majority of isolates belonged to phylogenetic group B2 and were classified as extraintestinal pathogenic E.

gyrAMutations in Fluoroquinolone-resistantClostridium difficilePCR-027
To the Editor: Clostridium difficile is the most common cause of bacterial diarrhea in hospitalized patients (1). Antimicrobial drug therapy is the most important risk factor associated with the acquistion of C. difficile, and several antimicrobial agents including clindamycin, amoxicillin, and cephalosporins have been particularly associated with C ...

Mutations of gyrA gene and parC gene in Streptococcus pneumoniae
Fifty-six levofloxacin-susceptible strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae were isolated from various clinical material in July, 2002 from June, 2001, examined antimicrobial susceptibility testing of levofloxacin and sparfloxacin, and performed analysis of gyrA gene and parC gene. 56 strains were not sparfloxacin-resistance. There was not found to mutation

Genetic diversity and characteristics of gyrA gene in Neisseria spp [PDF]
Abstract Background Neisseria meningitidis bacteria characterized by clonal complex (CC4821) showed a high resistance rate to quinolones. The aim of this study was to assess whether the DNA gyrase A gene from N.meningitidis CC4821 strains collected in China featured any specific characteristics compared to other Neisseria species.
