Thermal Shifts Dominate Single‐Gene Responses to Transcription‐Targeting Antibiotics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Thermal shifts reshape bacterial responses to transcription‐targeting antibiotics. In E. coli, temperature can dominate antibiotic‐induced genome‐wide expression, particularly outside 30°C–39°C, through changes in adenosine triphosphate (ATP), nucleoid organization, and drug‐target engagement.

Identification of pathogenic Leptospira species by conventional or real-time PCR and sequencing of the DNA gyrase subunit B encoding gene

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2006
Background Leptospira is the causative genus of the disease, leptospirosis. Species identification of pathogenic Leptospira in the past was generally performed by either DNA-DNA hybridisation or 16s rRNA gene sequencing.

New insights into fluoroquinolone resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis: functional genetic analysis of gyrA and gyrB mutations. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Fluoroquinolone antibiotics are among the most potent second-line drugs used for treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB), and resistance to this class of antibiotics is one criterion for defining extensively drug resistant tuberculosis ...

The sRNA vvrr1 Modulates the VarS/VarA‐Csr System via LeuO to Regulate Biofilm Formation and Virulence in Vibrio alginolyticus

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
vvrr1, a small RNA, post‐transcriptionally represses the transcriptional regulator LeuO, which directly inhibits the VarS/VarA two‐component system. This triggers a Csr cascade that relieves LuxO repression, ultimately modulating exopolysaccharide production to control biofilm formation and virulence in Vibrio alginolyticus.

Topoisomerases I and III inhibit R-loop formation to prevent unregulated replication in the chromosomal Ter region of Escherichia coli. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2018
Type 1A topoisomerases (topos) are the only ubiquitous topos. E. coli has two type 1A topos, topo I (topA) and topo III (topB). Topo I relaxes negative supercoiling in part to inhibit R-loop formation. To grow, topA mutants acquire compensatory mutations,

Molecular characterization of mutations associated with resistance to second line drugs in Mycobacterium tuberculosis patients from Casablanca, Morocco

open access: yesRevista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo, 2021
The emergence and spread of extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) is a serious threat to global health. Therefore, its rapid diagnosis is crucial.

Manure Composting as a Strategy to Mitigate Antibiotic Resistance Dissemination in Agricultural Systems

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Livestock manure is a valuable agricultural resource but may introduce antibiotic residues and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) into the environment. This review critically evaluates the fate of antibiotics and ARGs during manure composting and identifies the principal factors controlling their attenuation.

Molecular characterisation and screening for сry genes of native Bacillus thuringiensis strains from Kazakhstan

open access: yesPlant Protection Science
The current study aimed to characterise indigenous Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) strains for their potential use in agricultural broad-spectrum pest control. Twenty-nine Bt strains were isolated from soil in southeastern Kazakhstan.

Role of core promoter sequences in the mechanism of swarmer cell-specific silencing of gyrB transcription in Caulobacter crescentus

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2005
Background Each Caulobacter crescentus cell division yields two distinct cell types: a flagellated swarmer cell and a non-motile stalked cell. The swarmer cell is further distinguished from the stalked cell by an inability to reinitiate DNA replication ...

Advancing Therapies for Mycobacterial Diseases: From Small Molecules to Host‐Directed Strategies

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The global burden of multidrug‐resistant tuberculosis (MDR‐TB) and the rising incidence of nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections highlight the urgent need for innovative therapeutic strategies. Current treatments are prolonged, toxic, and increasingly compromised by resistance and limited diagnostic capacity.
