Activated ras oncogene collaborates with HBx gene of hepatitis B virus to transform cells by suppressing HBx-mediated apoptosis [PDF]

open access: yesOncogene, 2001
The hepatitis B virus HBx protein is a promiscuous transactivator implicated in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. The ectopic expression of HBx fails to transform both primary and immortalized rodent cells, but rather induces apoptosis. Furthermore, most transgenic mice harboring HBx do not develop liver tumors.

The effect of miR-338-3p on HBx deletion-mutant (HBx-d382) mediated liver-cell proliferation through CyclinD1 regulation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) DNA integration and HBV X (HBx) deletion mutation occurs in HBV-positive liver cancer patients, and C-terminal deletion in HBx gene mutants are highly associated with hepatocarcinogenesis.

Genome-wide identification of direct HBx genomic targets [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2017
The Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) HBx regulatory protein is required for HBV replication and involved in HBV-related carcinogenesis. HBx interacts with chromatin modifying enzymes and transcription factors to modulate histone post-translational modifications and to regulate viral cccDNA transcription and cellular gene expression. Aiming to identify genes and

Identification of Estradiol Benzoate as an Inhibitor of HBx Using Inducible Stably Transfected HepG2 Cells Expressing HiBiT Tagged HBx

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
HBx plays a significant role in the cccDNA epigenetic modification regulating the hepatitis B virus (HBV) life cycle and in hepatocyte proliferation and carcinogenesis. By using the sleeping-beauty transposon system, we constructed a tetracycline-induced HBx-expressing stable cell line, SBHX21.

Expression of HBx and COX-2 in chronic hepatitis B, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma: implication of HBx in upregulation of COX-2 [PDF]

open access: yesModern Pathology, 2004
Hepatitis B virus is a major etiological factor of hepatocellular carcinoma, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We have previously demonstrated that upregulation of cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 in chronic hepatitis B persisted despite successful antiviral therapy.

Involvement of hepatitis B virus X gene (HBx) integration in hepatocarcinogenesis via a recombination of HBx/Alu core sequence/subtelomeric DNA [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2012
The significance of hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA‐based integration in hepatocarcinogenesis is poorly understood. In the present study, we investigated whether the integration of HBV X gene (HBx) is involved in the event. Our finding showed that the integration of HBx fragment (316–462 bp/262–462 bp) was able to transform human immortalized normal liver ...

The Role of HBx Protein in Diseases Beyond the Liver

open access: yesInfection and Drug Resistance, 2023
HBX gene is essential for HBV replication, evading the surveillance of the immune system by integrating its sequence into the human genome. It also exists stably in human cells by inhibiting the expression and activity of mismatch repair-related pathway genes.

Hepatitis B Virus Oncoprotein HBx Is Not an ATPase [PDF]

open access: yesACS Omega, 2020
HBx is the smallest gene product of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and an oncogenic stimulus in chronic infections leading to liver disease. HBx interacts and interferes with numerous cellular processes, but its modes of action remain poorly understood. It has been invoked that HBx employs nucleotide hydrolysis to regulate molecular pathways or protein ...

Hepatitis B virus X protein promotes vimentin expression via LIM and SH3 domain protein 1 to facilitate epithelial-mesenchymal transition and hepatocarcinogenesis

open access: yesCell Communication and Signaling, 2021
Background Hepatitis B virus (HBV) X protein (HBX) has been reported to be responsible for the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Vimentin is an EMT-related molecular marker.

Downregulation of HBx Restrains Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion of HepG2 Cells

open access: yesAnalytical Cellular Pathology, 2021
Liver cancer is a major contributor to cancer-related death with poor survival for sufferers. Meanwhile, Hepatic B virus X protein (HBx) and XB130 are likely to participate in the pathogenesis of liver cancer. However, the detailed mechanism of HBx/XB130
