Episomal HBV persistence within transcribed host nuclear chromatin compartments involves HBx

open access: yesEpigenetics & Chromatin, 2018
Background In hepatocyte nuclei, hepatitis B virus (HBV) genomes occur episomally as covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA). The HBV X protein (HBx) is required to initiate and maintain HBV replication.

Disease Progression Mathematical Modeling With a Case Study on Hepatitis B Virus Infection

open access: yesCPT: Pharmacometrics &Systems Pharmacology, Volume 14, Issue 3, Page 420-434, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Chronic Hepatitis B presents a significant health and socioeconomic burden. The risk of hepatocellular carcinoma remains elevated although treatments are available. Achieving an optimal treatment regimen necessitates a deep comprehension of the dynamic relationship between the virus and its host across disease states.

Hepatitis B virus X protein upregulates mTOR signaling through IKKβ to increase cell proliferation and VEGF production in hepatocellular carcinoma. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a major cause of cancer-related death in Southeast Asia, is frequently associated with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.

p300 Degradation by the p53‐SIAH1 Axis Relieves TBK1 Acetylation to Enhance Innate Antiviral Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 50, 7 September 2026.
This study identifies p300 as the acetyltransferase that acetylates TBK1 and inhibits its phosphorylation. Activation of the p53‐SIAH1 axis by immune response downregulates p300 expression to sustain innate antiviral immunity. Conditional p300 knockout in alveolar epithelial cells in vivo promotes antiviral responses and suppresses virus replication ...

HBx decreases IRS1 expression.

open access: yes, 2013
(A) The effects of HBx protein on IRS1 expression in wild-type and HBx-transgenic mice. Proteins in liver extracts from control and HBx-transgenic mice were immunoblotted with anti-IRS1, anti-phospho-IRS1 (Ser307), anti-IRβ, anti-HBx, and anti-Actin ...

Human Urine Stem Cells Alleviate Pulmonary Fibrosis via Inhibiting Macrophage‐Myofibroblast Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 51, 14 September 2026.
Therapeutic role and mechanism of human urine stem cells (hUSCs) in pulmonary fibrosis. hUSCs alleviated pulmonary fibrosis by selectively inhibiting macrophage‐myofibroblast transition (MMT) in two ways: on one hand, hUSCs inhibited mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) production and apoptosis/senescence of epithelial cells in pulmonary ...

HBx induces oxidative stress.

open access: yes, 2016
(A) The expression of HBx in Huh-7 cells transfected with HBV expressing plasmid (WT HBV) or plasmid expressing HBV genome with HBx mutation (MUT HBV) was measured by western blot analysis. β-actin was used as a loading control. (B-C) ROS levels in Huh-7

Histone Post‐Translational Modifications Regulating Ferroptosis: The Molecular Mechanisms and Disease Associations

open access: yesCell Biochemistry and Function, Volume 44, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Ferroptosis is a form of programmed cell death characterized by iron‐dependent phospholipid peroxidation and is implicated in a wide range of human diseases. Emerging evidence highlights the critical role of epigenetic regulation in this process.

Hepatitis B Virus HBx Gene and Hepatocarcinogenesis

open access: yesIntervirology, 1995
The association between hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been known over the past 20 years. We have shown that the HBx gene of HBV induces HCC in transgenic mice and that HBx protein may be involved in hepatocarcinogenesis in human chronic HBV infection.
