Intracellular localization of the hepatitis B virus HBx protein

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2001
The hepatitis B virus (HBV) X protein (HBx) was originally suggested to be a viral transcriptional activator, but its functional mechanisms are still unclear. In this study we have analysed the intracellular localization of HBx in transfected cells and demonstrate that its compartmentalization is dependent on overall expression levels.

Modulation of Apoptotic Signaling by the Hepatitis B Virus X Protein

open access: yesViruses, 2012
Worldwide, an estimated 350 million people are chronically infected with the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV); chronic infection with HBV is associated with the development of severe liver diseases including hepatitis and cirrhosis.

Screening of the HBx transactivation domain interacting proteins and the function of interactor Pin1 in HBV replication

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) X protein (HBx) has been determined to play a crucial role in the replication and transcription of HBV, and its biological functions mainly depend on the interaction with other host proteins.

Identifying and Characterizing Interplay between Hepatitis B Virus X Protein and Smc5/6

open access: yesViruses, 2017
Hepatitis B X protein (HBx) plays an essential role in the hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication cycle, but the function of HBx has been elusive until recently.

Hepatitis B virus X protein accelerates the development of hepatoma

open access: yesCancer Biology & Medicine, 2014
The chronic infection of hepatitis B virus (HBV) is closely related to the occurrence and development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Accumulated evidence has shown that HBV X protein (HBx protein) is a multifunctional regulator with a crucial role in

The effect of miR-338-3p on HBx deletion-mutant (HBx-d382) mediated liver-cell proliferation through CyclinD1 regulation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) DNA integration and HBV X (HBx) deletion mutation occurs in HBV-positive liver cancer patients, and C-terminal deletion in HBx gene mutants are highly associated with hepatocarcinogenesis.

Effects of Hepatitis B Virus X Protein (HBx) on Cell-Growth Inhibition in a CCL13-HBx Stable Cell Line

open access: yesIntervirology, 2008
<i>Objective:</i> The known function of hepatitis B virus X protein (HBx) is to determine the fate of cells by modulating various signaling pathways. In our previous study, we demonstrated that HBx inhibits tumor formation in nude mice injected with CCL13-HBx stable cell lines; however, the mechanism underlying this inhibition is unclear ...

Hepatitis B Virus HBx Protein Interactions with the Ubiquitin Proteasome System [PDF]

open access: yesViruses, 2014
The hepatitis B virus (HBV) causes acute and chronic hepatitis, and the latter is a major risk factor for the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). HBV encodes a 17-kDa regulatory protein, HBx, which is required for virus replication. Although the precise contribution(s) of HBx to virus replication is unknown, many viruses target cellular ...

Hepatitis B virus X protein (HBx) enhances centrosomal P4.1-associated protein (CPAP) expression to promote hepatocarcinogenesis

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science, 2019
Background Our previous report suggested that centrosomal P4.1-associated protein (CPAP) is required for Hepatitis B virus (HBV) encoded non-structure protein X (HBx)-mediated nuclear factor kappa light chain enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB ...
