Preparation, Component Identification, and Antioxidant Activity of Anthocyanins From Punica granatum “Tunisia”

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
The preparation for Tunisian pomegranate anthocyanin extract. The molecular mechanisms underlying the antioxidant effects of these compounds were investigated using network pharmacology and molecular docking. Antioxidant activity was evaluated through DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays, whereas the effects on oxidative stress and inflammation were examined in

Porcine kidney xenotransplantation: From primate models to clinical reality

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
In the face of a critical shortage of human donor kidneys for end‐stage renal disease patients, porcine kidney xenotransplantation has emerged as a viable solution. This field has navigated major hurdles, including immune rejection, physiological incompatibilities, potential biomechanical differences and the risk of cross‐species infection. To overcome

Production of Transgenic Micro-Pig Expressing Human Heme Oxygenase 1

open access: yesJournal of Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology, 2015
Xenotransplantation of pig islet regarded as a good alternative to allotransplantation. However, cellular death mediated by hypoxia-reoxygenation injury after transplantation disturb success of this technique.

Naringin Decreases TNF-α and HMGB1 Release from LPS-Stimulated Macrophages and Improves Survival in a CLP-Induced Sepsis Mice. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Naringin, a flavanone glycoside extracted from various plants, has a wide range of pharmacological effects. In the present study, we investigated naringin's mechanism of action and its inhibitory effect on lipopolysaccharide-induced tumor necrosis factor-

Heme oxygenase-1 and cardiovascular disease.

open access: yesHistology and histopathology, 2006
Heme oxygenase (HO)-1 is the inducible isoform of the first and rate-controlling enzyme of heme degradation. HO-1 is up-regulated by a host of oxidative stress stimuli and has potent cytoprotective and anti-inflammatory functions via decreasing tissue levels of the prooxidant heme along with production of bilirubin and the signaling gas carbon monoxide.

Heme oxygenase 1 alleviates nonalcoholic steatohepatitis by suppressing hepatic ferroptosis

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2023
Background Heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) has an influential but insufficiently investigated effect on ferroptosis, which is a novel form of programmed cell death and may play an effect on nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

Altered heme catabolism by heme oxygenase-1 caused by mutations in human NADPH cytochrome P450 reductase

open access: yes, 2010
Human heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) carries out heme catabolism supported by electrons supplied from the NADPH through NADPH P450 reductase (POR, CPR). Previously we have shown that mutations in human POR cause a rare form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia. In

Recent advances in the construction of humanized animal models and applications in translational medicine

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Substantial advances have been achieved in the development of humanized mouse models, which have proven highly valuable in evaluating cancer immunotherapies and elucidating the mechanisms of infectious diseases. There is now a growing shift in research toward larger animal models—such as pigs—that offer greater physiological similarity to humans ...

Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells Elevate CD4+CD25+CD127low/- Regulatory T Cells of Asthmatic Patients via Heme Oxygenase-1

open access: yesIranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, 2013
Up-regulation of CD4+CD25+CD127low/- regulatory T cells (Tregs) is a new target in the treatment of asthma. Human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells can up-regulate CD4+CD25+CD127low/- regulatory T cells in vitro,  meanwhile, heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1 ...
