Plant histone acetylation: In the beginning…
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Regulatory Mechanisms, 2011The study of histone acetylation in plants started with protein purification and sequencing, with gel analysis and the use of radioactive tracers. In alfalfa, acid urea Triton gel electrophoresis and in vivo labeling with tritated acetate and lysine quantified dynamic acetylation of core histones and identified the replication-coupled and -independent ...

Histone acetylation and an epigenetic code
BioEssays, 2000The enzyme-catalyzed acetylation of the N-terminal tail domains of core histones provides a rich potential source of epigenetic information. This may be used both to mediate transient changes in transcription, through modification of promoter-proximal nucleosomes, and for the longer-term maintenance and modulation of patterns of gene expression.

Histone acetylation: facts and questions
Chromosoma, 1994The DNA of eukaryotic cells is organized in a complex with proteins, either as interphase chromatin or mitotic chromosomes. Nucleosomes, the structural subunits of chromatin, have long been considered as static structures, incompatible with processes occurring in chromatin.
