Towards explaining "unexplained hyperferritinemia"
Elevated serum ferritin is found in a large spectrum of conditions both genetic and acquired, associated or not with iron overload. In this perspective article, Drs. Camaschella and Poggiali examine our current knowledge of the molecular basis of inherited hyperferritinemia. See related article on page 335.

A rare case report of hereditary hyperferritinemia cataract syndrome
Background: Hereditary hyperferritinemia cataract syndrome (HHCS) is a rare genetic disease caused by a mutation in the ferritin light chain gene (FTL gene).

Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis Associated to Klebsiella pneumoniae Infection: A Case Report
This is a case analysis of a 73-year-old Chinese man admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit (ICU) with fever and general pain. Based on the patient’s initial condition of multi-organ function impairment and increased serum ferritin, and after a ...

Hyperferritinemia and Diseases
Ferritin is the principal iron storage protein participating in iron metabolism. As serum ferritin levels often reflect the amount of storage iron in the body, physicians have measured serum ferritin in order to evaluate iron deficiency or overload. Although a rise in serum ferritin concentration occurs in iron overload, hyperferritinemia without it ...

Adult-onset Still′s disease masquerading as sepsis
This is a case of a 30-year-old female who presented with a recent 4-week history of fever with an underlying chronic illness for the last 6 years for which she got evaluated multiple times and received long treatments but did not get relieved. This time,

Precision immunomodulation for pediatric hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis in intensive care
This review presents a bedside framework for recognizing pediatric hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis and cytokine storm, stabilizing organ dysfunction, identifying the underlying phenotype, selecting targeted immunomodulation, considering extracorporeal adjuncts, and reassessing response within 24–72 h. ABSTRACT Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH)

Revisiting Ferritin‐IgG Score to Predict Complete Biochemical Response in Autoimmune Hepatitis
The ferritin‐IgG score failed external validation in a large Spanish multicentre cohort. However, baseline IgG ≥ 1.89×ULN independently predicted both complete biochemical response and biochemical response (defined as transaminase normalization), identifying patients less likely to achieve timely remission with standard therapy.

Hyperferritinemia in Dogs with Splenic Hemangiosarcoma
Serum ferritin concentration increases in dogs in association with various diseases. In this study, we measured serum ferritin levels in dogs with splenic masses, using a sandwich ELISA assay. Eleven dogs with hemangiosarcoma (HSA), six with hematoma, 1 with hemangioma and 3 with lymphoma were enrolled.
