Changes in Insulin-Like Growth Factor-I and -II Associated with Fat but not Lean Mass in Early Old Age [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Objective: To test the hypothesis that insulin-like growth factors-I and II (IGF-I and II) decline during late midlife and that greater declines are related to higher fat mass and lower lean mass.

Insulin-like Growth Factor-I Reduces Collagen Production by Hepatic Stellate Cells Through Stimulation of Collagen Degradation System via mTOR-Dependent Signaling Pathway

open access: yesBiomedicines
Aim: The liver is the major source of circulating insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I. Serum IGF-I levels are decreased in cirrhotic patients depending on severity.

IGF-I and the aging mammalian brain

open access: yesExperimental Gerontology, 2011
Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) are important modulators of organismal life-span all along phylogeny. These growth factors are widely viewed as detrimental for long life by reducing tissue resistance to oxidative stress. However, IGF-I has been consistently shown to be a potent neuroprotective factor in mammals, and as such, a deterrent of brain ...

Matrix: a complex amalgam of structures and functions in tumor microenvironment

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The matrix is a dynamic, intricate three‐dimensional mesh of biomolecules with both structural and functional properties. This review deals with the complexity of this ‘molecular amalgam’ in the tumor microenvironment and highlights its importance in the maintenance and evolution of tumors by describing certain matrix biomolecules, such as ...

Monitoring serum insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), IGF binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3), IGF-I/IGFBP-3 molar ratio and leptin during growth hormone treatment for disordered growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
OBJECTIVE: Serum IGF-I levels are monitored during GH replacement treatment in adults with GH defi- ciency (GHD) to guide GH dose adjustment and to minimize occurrence of GH-related side-effects.

Relation of IGF-I with subclinical cardiovascular markers including intima-media thickness, left ventricular mass index and NT-proBNP

open access: yesEndocrine Connections, 2019
Objective: Several studies revealed relations between low or high insulin -like growth factor I (IGF-I) levels and risk of cardiovascular diseases or mortality, whereas the mechanisms be hind these associations are still unknown.

Forskolin Enhances Urokinase Plasminogen Activator Secretion and Angiogenic Activity of Xeno‐Free Cultures of Human Adipose Tissue‐Derived Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The regenerative potential of adipose tissue‐derived stem cells can be enhanced through chemical stimulation in vitro. A short stimulation protocol using forskolin, either alone or in combination with other growth factors, under xeno‐free conditions enhanced the pro‐angiogenic responses in human ASCs.

Local application of engineered insulin-like growth factor I mRNA demonstrates regenerative therapeutic potential in vivo

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids, 2023
Insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) is a growth-promoting anabolic hormone that fosters cell growth and tissue homeostasis. IGF-I deficiency is associated with several diseases, including growth disorders and neurological and musculoskeletal diseases ...

LIN28B Promotes Cancer Cell Dissemination and Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Children diagnosed with high‐risk neuroblastoma have a 5‐year event‐free survival rate of less than 50% and poor outcomes after recurrence. Deregulation of the LIN28B oncogene can be addressed in these patients. Upregulation of LIN28B is shown to support the metastatic cascade.

Alternative Leader-Exon Usage in Mouse IGF-I mRNA Variants: Class 1 and Class 2 IGF-I mRNAs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The mouse IGF-I gene contains six exons, and exon 1 and exon 2 gene are considered to be leader exons. The regulatory mechanism of alternative usage of the leader exons is unclear in mice.
