IGF-II-secreting pelvic tumor presenting with neuropsychiatric symptoms [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Case Reports, 2013
A 48-year-male presented with a gradually increasing lump in the abdomen, which was confirmed on investigations as a pelvic tumor. He developed frequent episodes of hypoglycemia and neuropsychiatric symptoms while awaiting surgery. During episodes of hypoglycemia, his serum C-peptide and insulin levels were negligible and the insulin-like growth factor

Interaction between Angiotensin II and Insulin/IGF-1 Exerted a Synergistic Stimulatory Effect on ERK1/2 Activation in Adrenocortical Carcinoma H295R Cells

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, 2016
The cross talk between angiotensin II (Ang II) and insulin has been described mainly in cardiovascular cells, hepatocytes, adipocytes, and so forth, and to date no such cross talk was reported in adrenal.

Hepatoprotection and neuroprotection induced by low doses of IGF-II in aging rats

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2011
Background GH and IGFs serum levels decline with age. Age-related changes appear to be associated to decreases in these anabolic hormones. We have previously demonstrated that IGF-I replacement therapy improves insulin resistance, lipid metabolism and ...

Assessing the role of insulin-like growth factors and binding proteins in prostate cancer using Mendelian randomization:genetic variants as instruments for circulating levels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Circulating insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and their binding proteins (IGFBPs) are associated with prostate cancer. Using genetic variants as instruments for IGF peptides, we investigated whether these associations are likely to be causal.

Study on the Imprinting Status of Insulin-Like Growth Factor II (IGF-II) Gene in Villus during 6–10 Gestational Weeks

open access: yesObstetrics and Gynecology International, 2010
Objective. To compare the difference of imprinting status of insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II) gene in villus between normal embryo development group and abnormal embryo development group and to investigate the relationship between karyotype and ...

Insulin-like growth factors and related proteins in plasma and cerebrospinal fluids of HIV-positive individuals. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BackgroundClinically significant dysregulation of the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) family proteins occurs in HIV-infected individuals, but the details including whether the deficiencies in IGFs contribute to CNS dysfunction are unknown.MethodsWe ...

Site-specific cleavage of IGF-II mRNAs requires sequence elements from two distinct regions of the IGF-II gene

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1992
The human insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II) gene constitutes a complex transcriptional unit that contains nine exons and four promoters. Expression of the IGF-II gene yields a family of mRNAs that all encode prepro-IGF-II. In addition, a stable 1.8 kb RNA is formed that is derived from the 3' untranslated region of exon 9.

IGFBP-5 regulates muscle cell differentiation by binding to IGF-II and switching on the IGF-II auto-regulation loop [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Cell Biology, 2008
IGF-II stimulates both mitogenesis and myogenesis through its binding and activation of the IGF-I receptor (IGF-IR). How this growth factor pathway promotes these two opposite cellular responses is not well understood. We investigate whether local IGF binding protein-5 (IGFBP-5) promotes the myogenic action of IGF-II.

Immunohistochemical localization of IGF-I, IGF-II and MSTN proteins during development of triploid sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Histochemistry, 2010
The cellular localization of IGF-I, IGF-II and MSTN proteins was investigated during ontogenesis of triploid sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) by an immunohistochemical approach. The results were compared with those observed in diploids.

Association of Elevated IGFBP-1 with Increased IGF-II Concentration in Patients with Carcinoma of the Liver

open access: yesThe International Journal of Biological Markers, 2008
Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) are mitogens for numerous types of cells including cancer cells. The aim of this work was to analyze some of the components of the IGF system to assess which could be potential clinical biomarkers for monitoring ...
