Management of trypanosomiasis and leishmaniasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
<p>Background: The current treatments for human African trypanosomiasis (HAT), Chagas disease and leishmaniasis (collectively referred to as the kinetoplastid diseases) are far from ideal but, for some, there has been significant recent progress ...

8-Methoxypsoralen Plus Ultraviolet A Reduces the Psoriatic Response to Imiquimod in a Murine Model

open access: yesActa Dermato-Venereologica, 2018
The effects of 8-Methoxypsoralen plus ultraviolet A (PUVA) or ultraviolet B (UVB) alone on imiquimod-induced psoriasis were examined in a mouse model.

Ameliorating Effect of Oral Guggulsterone Administration in Imiquimod-Induced Psoriasis in Mice

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2018
Psoriasis is a common chronic skin condition characterized by infiltration of inflammatory cells into the epidermis and altered keratinocyte differentiation.

Equine sarcoids: Bovine Papillomavirus type 1 transformed fibroblasts are sensitive to cisplatin and UVB induced apoptosis and show aberrant expression of p53 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Bovine papillomavirus type 1 infects not only cattle but also equids and is a causative factor in the pathogenesis of commonly occurring equine sarcoid tumours.

Improved Systemic Immunochemotherapy Employing an Oxaliplatin‐TLR7/8 Agonist Prodrug Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A platinum(IV) prodrug is developed to systemically deliver the TLR7/8 agonist gardiquimod. Tumor‐targeting is mediated by an albumin‐binding maleimide, which limits premature complex activation. Ox‐Gardi‐Mal accumulates specifically in the tumor, where it activates the immune system.

Engineered Bacteria Factory Integrating Drug Delivery and Antibody Manufacture for Activating the STING Signal Pathway Mediated Tumor Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To address the limitations of protein‐based ICIs in applications, this study constructed an engineered bacterium, HRB, capable of expressing aCD47 in hypoxic TME. Through the Schiff base reaction, responsive liposomes (LC) loaded with the STING agonist cGAMP were connected to the surface of bacteria to form HRB@LC.

Depletion of p75NTR in Schwann Cells Driven by Inflammation Mediates Cutaneous Pain in Psoriasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Psoriasis‐like inflammation induces proliferation and molecular remodeling of cutaneous Schwann cells, marked by reduced p75NTR and increased NGF expression. IL‐17A promotes this process, whereas Schwann cell‐specific p75NTR overexpression alleviates cutaneous pain in vivo.

Lymphoedema in patients with lentigo maligna treated with imiquimod: A long-term adverse effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: A higher incidence of lentigo maligna (LM) recurrences on the nose was previously observed in our cohort after non-surgical treatment. Objectives: To determine histological parameters that might be related to the previously observed higher ...

18β‐Glycyrrhetinic Acid and a Nano‐Liposomal Formulation Alleviate Depression‐Like Behaviors via the Microglial mTOR‐Autophagy‐NLRP3 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using a novel zebrafish‐based inflammatory screening strategy, we screened and identified 18β‐glycyrrhetinic acid (18β‐GA) as a promising anti‐inflammatory candidate. We uncover a microglial mTOR–autophagy–NLRP3 axis that constitutes the mechanistic core of 18β‐GA–mediated neuroprotection.

Evaluating the Effects of Imiquimod on Paths of TLRs and Inflammatory Cytokines Signaling in Infected Macrophages with Leishmania major in Vitro and in Vivo

open access: yesIranian Journal of Parasitology
Background: Leishmania major is an obligate and intracellular pathogen and the macrophages are the cell hosts for L. major. Imiquimod stimulates macrophages to secrete different cytokines via the expression of TLRs.
