Quality control of protein import into mammalian mitochondria

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Mitochondrial function depends on the continuous import of hundreds of nuclear‐encoded proteins. Targeting and translocation of mitochondrial proteins is a multistep process that is inherently vulnerable to defects in cytosolic quality control systems as well as perturbations in mitochondrial protein import machinery and organelle function ...

The Critical Role of GALNTs‐Regulated O‐GalNAc Glycosylation in Cancer Malignancy

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 8, 30 April 2026.
The GALNT family initiates mucin‐type O‐GalNAc glycosylation in the Golgi apparatus and how regulatory mechanisms, including GALNT relocalization and microRNA control, modulate this process. Dysregulated O‐GalNAc glycosylation alters key cellular behaviors and promotes cancer malignancy, highlighting its relevance to tumor progression as well as its ...

The Regulation and Function of Hippo/YAP Pathway in Cancer

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 7, 15 April 2026.
Hippo/YAP pathway signaling plays critical roles in the progression of multiple cancer types. This review summarizes current knowledge of Hippo/YAP pathway regulation and function in cancer. We discuss the core components of the Hippo/YAP pathway; its crosstalk with other signaling pathways; regulation by non‐coding RNAs; roles of YAP signaling in ...

CD207‐Positive Dendritic Cells Promote Emphysema Through CD8+ T Cell Pathway in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 16, 18 March 2026.
CD207+ dendritic cells (DCs) drive emphysema by promoting CD8⁺ T cell cytotoxicity via Birbeck granule‐dependent MHC‐I antigen presentation. This DC subset is expanded by cigarette smoke‐induced oxidative stress, which triggers granulocyte‐macrophage colony‐stimulating factor (GM‐CSF) release from airway epithelium.

Dysregulation of immunoproteasomes in autoinflammatory syndromes

open access: yesInternational Immunology, 2018
Abstract Immunoproteasomes degrade ubiquitin-coupled proteins and play a role in creating peptides for presentation by MHC class I proteins. Studies of gene-deficient mice, in which each immunoproteasomal subunit was affected, have demonstrated that dysfunction of immunoproteasomes leads to immunodeficiency, i.e.

Computational analysis and modeling of cleavage by the immunoproteasome and the constitutive proteasome

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2010
Background Proteasomes play a central role in the major histocompatibility class I (MHCI) antigen processing pathway. They conduct the proteolytic degradation of proteins in the cytosol, generating the C-terminus of CD8 T cell epitopes and MHCI-peptide ...

Immune and non-immune functions of the immunoproteasome

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience, 2012
The biological importance of the ubiquitin-proteasome system in the control of myriad cellular processes has been well-recognized; however, the pathophysiological significance of the immunoproteasome, the inducible form of the proteasome, has not been well-comprehended until lately.

Subversion of immunoproteasome subunit expression in dengue virus serotype 2-infected HepG2 cells

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical
: INTRODUCTION: Infection with all serotypes of dengue virus (DV) results in augmented antigen presentation by MHC class I molecules. However, the upregulation of immunoproteasome subunits only results from infection with two serotypes. This study aims
