Engineered 3D Kidney Glomerular Microtissues to Model Podocyte‐Centric Diseases for the Validation of New Drug Targets

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The study introduces innovative 3D microtissues that replicate the glomerular filtration barrier of the kidney, offering a novel platform for understanding podocytopathies. These microtissues simulate the glomerulus's structure and dynamics, allowing for the modeling of podocyte injuries and drug testing.

Induced pluripotent stem cells and hepatic differentiation

open access: yesJournal of the Chinese Medical Association, 2013
Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are generated by reprogramming somatic cells to a pluripotent state by the introduction of specific factors. They can be generated from cells of different origins, such as fibroblasts, keratinocytes, hepatocytes, and blood.

Morphometric‐Assisted Prediction of Developmental Toxicity Using Stem Cell‐Based Embryo Models in Microwells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This proof‐of‐concept study involves high‐throughput teratogenicity screening of compounds using XEn/EpiCs, a 3D stem cell‐based embryo model, within microwells. The term ‘morphotoxicity’ is introduced to complement traditional cytotoxicity assays through automated feature extraction and machine‐learning‐assisted classification of morphologies.

Modeling iPSC-derived Endothelial Cell Transition in Tumor Angiogenesis using Petri Nets [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 17th International Joint Conference on Biomedical Engineering Systems and Technologies - Volume 1: BIOINFORMATICS, 337-346, 2024
Tumor angiogenesis concerns the development of new blood vessels supplying the necessary nutrients for the further development of existing tumor cells. The entire process is complex, involving the production and consumption of chemicals, endothelial cell transitions as well as cell interactions, divisions, and migrations.

Exosomes secreted by human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived mesenchymal stem cells attenuate limb ischemia by promoting angiogenesis in mice

open access: yesStem cell research & therapeutics, 2015
Introduction‘Patient-specific’ induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are attractive because they can generate abundant cells without the risk of immune rejection for cell therapy.

Organoid‐Like Neurovascular Spheroids Promote the Recovery of Hypoxic‐Ischemic Skin Flaps Through the Activation of Autophagy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Highly sprouting organoid‐like neurovascular spheroids (NVUs) are developed, featuring cell‐loaded poly‐3‐hydroxybutyrate 4‐hydroxybutyrate(P34HB) porous microsphere cores embedded within Gelatin Methacryloyl. NVUs formed complex vascular plexuses and secreted extracellular matrix in vitro, simulating autologous nerves and blood interaction.

Biomimetic Scaffolds Enhance iPSC Astrocyte Progenitor Angiogenic, Immunomodulatory, and Neurotrophic Capacity in a Stiffness and Matrix‐Dependent Manner for Spinal Cord Repair Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Through tuning biomimetic scaffold stiffness and matrix composition the reparative capacity of astrocyte progenitors is enhanced. Soft, collagen‐IV/fibronectin‐functionalized scaffolds promote progenitor growth while improving angiogenic, immunomodulatory, and neurotrophic capacity in a stiffness and matrix‐dependent manner, demonstrating the impact of
