Inhibitory action of some compounds on staphylococcal coagulase

Melanogenesis inhibitory compounds from Saussureae Radix
Archives of Pharmacal Research, 2008Ten compounds were isolated from the EtOAc soluble part of the MeOH extract of Saussureae Radix, with their effects on melanin production also evaluated in B-16 mouse melanoma cell lines stimulated with 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine (IBMX), an elevator of cellular cAMP.

Induction of sporulation by inhibitory purines and related compounds
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1978Sporulation of Bacillus subtilis can be induced, in the presence of excess ammonia, glucose and phosphate, by many purine derivatives under conditions of partial growth inhibition. Some of the compounds are known inhibitors of purine nucleotide synthesis. For most compounds the effect is counteracted by adenine and guanine. Partial growth inhibition by

CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS WITH INHIBITORY EFFECT IN HYPERTHYROIDISM
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1945To the Editor:— Occasionally, discoveries are made in apparently unrelated fields in medicine which under closer examinations can be brought under a common denominator. While a chief resident at the Montefiore hospital, New York, I was investigating a possible influence of thiouracil on cancer of the thyroid gland.

Quorum-Sensing Inhibitory Compounds
2007Biofilm formation plays an important role in antimicrobial resistance, posing a global threat to the economy and public health. Hence, discovery of novel antagonists is critical. In this chapter, we introduce a class of compounds, brominated furanones, which have a broad spectrum of activities against bacterial multicellular behaviors, such as biofilm ...

Diacylglycerol acyltransferase-inhibitory compounds from Erythrina senegalensis
Archives of Pharmacal Research, 2009Inhibition of acyl CoA:diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT) is proposed to be a drug target for the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes. Bioassay-guided fractionation of the CH(2)Cl(2)-soluble extract of the stem bark of Erythrina senegalensis, using an in vitro DGAT enzyme assay, resulted in the isolation of eight known prenylflavonoids, 8 ...

Suppression of the Inhibitory Effects of Arsenic Compounds by Phosphate
Nature New Biology, 1971ARSENIC compounds are widely used as biocides in pest control and as selective enzyme inhibitors in biochemical research. We have shown that the inhibitory effects of some arsenic compounds on wood-inhabiting microorganisms are drastically reduced in the presence of phosphates. This effect could have important implications.

Embryonic Development in Invertebrates Is Arrested by Inhibitory Compounds in Diatoms
Marine Biotechnology, 1999Phytoplankton blooms are known to induce diarrheic, neurotic, and paralytic shellfish poisoning in humans through the production of potent toxins by several dinoflagellate and flagellate species. Diatoms, another major component of the phytoplankton, have rarely been reported as toxic to marine organisms.

Cyclooxygenase Inhibitory and Antioxidant Compounds from Crabapple Fruits
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2003Crabapple trees belong to the Malus genus (Rosaceae) and bear fruits that are sparingly consumed and used in the preparation of fruit beverages. Cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme inhibitory and antioxidant bioassay-guided fractionation of the aqueous and methanol extracts of Malus x kornicensis and Malus x Indian Summer yielded (+)-catechin (1 ...

Anticonvulsant and Growth Inhibitory Effects of Some Organophosphorus Compounds*
Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association (Scientific ed.), 1953A series of organophosphates, structurally ghosphoryl analogs of phenylurethane, have een tested for anticonvulsant and growth inhibitory effects. The effects were expected from structural considerations.
