T cells, the Next Big Target in Axial Spondyloarthritis?

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by complex immune dysregulation, with T cells playing a central role in its pathogenesis. In this review, we synthesize current knowledge on diverse T cell subsets in axSpA, their pathogenic mechanisms, and emerging therapeutic strategies targeting these cells. We highlight

Seasonal changes and sex differences in peripheral blood γδ T and iNKT cells in healthy Polish adults

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences
Vitamin D regulates not only bone metabolism but also many other processes, including the functioning of lymphocytes. Human T cells have a nuclear receptor for vitamin D (VDR).

Development of off-the-shelf hematopoietic stem cell-engineered invariant natural killer T cells for COVID-19 therapeutic intervention

open access: yesStem Cell Research & Therapy, 2022
Background New COVID-19 treatments are desperately needed as case numbers continue to rise and emergent strains threaten vaccine efficacy. Cell therapy has revolutionized cancer treatment and holds much promise in combatting infectious disease, including

Impact of sleep insufficiency and recovery on cancer development

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Sleep plays a critical role in overall health, and modern lifestyles, such as shift work and late‐night activities, can significantly impact sleep condition. Insufficient sleep has been associated with various adverse health outcomes, including an increased risk of tumor development.

IL-7 During Antigenic Stimulation Using Allogeneic Dendritic Cells Promotes Expansion of CD45RA-CD62L+CD4+ Invariant NKT Cells With Th-2 Biased Cytokine Production Profile

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
Invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells are innate-like T lymphocytes cells that recognize glycolipid antigens associated with CD1d, non-classical antigen presenting proteins.

Tissue-specific metabolic profile drives iNKT cell function during obesity and liver injury

open access: yesCell Reports, 2023
Summary: Invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells are a distinct population of lymphocytes characterized by their reactivity to glycolipids presented by CD1d.

Innovations in Obesity Treatment: Beyond Adipose Tissue Dysfunction

open access: yesObesity Reviews, EarlyView.
Obesity drives chronic inflammation, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and cancer development through adipocyte dysfunction. Addressing this multisystemic disorder requires integrated strategies beyond diet and exercise, such as thermogenesis activation via menthol or capsinoids and appetite control through GLP‐1/GIP agonists and neuromodulation to ...

De novo fatty-acid synthesis protects invariant NKT cells from cell death, thereby promoting their homeostasis and pathogenic roles in airway hyperresponsiveness

open access: yeseLife, 2023
Invariant natural-killer T (iNKT) cells play pathogenic roles in allergic asthma in murine models and possibly also humans. While many studies show that the development and functions of innate and adaptive immune cells depend on their metabolic state ...

Synovial Fluid Immune Cell Landscape in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, Volume 56, Issue 10, October 2026.
Synovial fluid immune cells in juvenile idiopathic arthritis were profiled using single‐cell multiomics and flow cytometry. The immune landscape in synovial fluid was markedly distinct from that of blood and was enriched for dendritic cells, CD56hi NK cells, γδ T cells, CD4+ T peripheral helper and regulatory T cells, tissue‐resident memory CD8+ T ...

Discovery of Avian TCRVβ2+ T Cells Recognizing the Endogenous Ganglioside via a chCD1.1‐Dependent Pathway

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, Volume 56, Issue 10, October 2026.
We present the first report of chicken lipid‐reactive, NKT‐like TCRVβ2+ T cells that recognize the endogenous ganglioside GM3 presented by chCD1.1 on live antigen‐presenting cells. This activation induces a rapid cytokine response from avian lipid‐reactive T cells, offering a universal target for lipid‐adjuvanted poultry vaccines.
