RNA viruses alter house dust mite physiology and allergen production with no detected consequences for allergenicity

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, Volume 32, Issue 2, Page 173-186, April 2023., 2023
The infection of the European house dust mite with RNA viruses affects the expression of allergen‐related, immunity and stress‐response genes. Major allergen Der p 23 is upregulated (with ELISA titres increasing in culture extracts), whilst serine protease allergens Der p 3, 6 and 9 are downregulated (trypsin and chymotrypsin activities reduced).

Distinct patterns of gene expression during regeneration and asexual reproduction in the annelid Pristina leidyi

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, Volume 338, Issue 7, Page 405-420, November 2022., 2022
Summary of the workflow developed in this study. Abstract Regeneration, the ability to replace lost body parts, is a widespread phenomenon in the animal kingdom often connected to asexual reproduction or fission, since the only difference between the two appears to be the stimulus that triggers them.

Epithelial–mesenchymal transition: The history, regulatory mechanism, and cancer therapeutic opportunities

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 3, Issue 2, June 2022., 2022
Epithelial–mesenchymal transition contributes to multiple hallmarks of cancer, including metastasis activation, metabolic reprogramming, stemness acquisition, and chronic inflammation, which is regulated by complex signaling network and is highly context dependent.

Evolutionary Diversification of Insect Innexins [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Insect Science, 2014
Phylogenetic analysis of insect innexins supported the hypothesis that six major clades of insect innexins arose by gene duplication prior to the origin of the endopterygote insects. Within one of the six clades (the Zpg Clade), two independent gene duplication events were inferred to have occurred in the lineage of Drosophila, after the most recent ...

Integration of Migratory Cells into a New Site In Vivo Requires Channel-Independent Functions of Innexins on Microtubules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
During embryonic development and cancer metastasis, migratory cells must establish stable connections with new partners at their destinations. Here, we establish the Drosophila border cells as a model for this multistep process.

Shaking B Mediates Synaptic Coupling between Auditory Sensory Neurons and the Giant Fiber of Drosophila melanogaster.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
The Johnston's Organ neurons (JONs) form chemical and electrical synapses onto the giant fiber neuron (GF), as part of the neuronal circuit that mediates the GF escape response in Drosophila melanogaster.

Innexin function dictates the spatial relationship between distal somatic cells in the Caenorhabditis elegans gonad without impacting the germline stem cell pool

open access: yeseLife, 2022
Gap-junctional signaling mediates myriad cellular interactions in metazoans. Yet, how gap junctions control the positioning of cells in organs is not well understood. Innexins compose gap junctions in invertebrates and affect organ architecture. Here, we

Bracovirus Sneaks Into Apoptotic Bodies Transmitting Immunosuppressive Signaling Driven by Integration-Mediated eIF5A Hypusination

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
A typical characteristics of polydnavirus (PDV) infection is a persistent immunosuppression, governed by the viral integration and expression of virulence genes.

The Cryo-EM structure of pannexin 1 reveals unique motifs for ion selection and inhibition

open access: yeseLife, 2020
Pannexins are large-pore forming channels responsible for ATP release under a variety of physiological and pathological conditions. Although predicted to share similar membrane topology with other large-pore forming proteins such as connexins, innexins ...

Pannexin2 oligomers localize into endosomal vesicles in mammalian cells while Pannexin1 channels traffic to the plasma membrane

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2015
Pannexin2 (Panx2) is the largest of three members of the pannexin proteins. Pannexins are topologically related to connexins and innexins, but serve different functional roles than forming gap junctions.
