Inositol phosphate kinases in the eukaryote landscape

open access: yesAdvances in Biological Regulation, 2021
Inositol phosphate encompasses a large multifaceted family of signalling molecules that originate from the combinatorial attachment of phosphate groups to the inositol ring. To date, four distinct inositol kinases have been identified, namely, IPK, ITPK, IPPK (IP5-2K), and PPIP5K.

Regulation of the Pho Regulon and Reconstruction of the Photosynthetic Apparatus under Phosphate Limitation in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
For millennia, cyanobacteria have evolved strategies for acclimatization to dynamic environments- this requires a molecular response system. Phosphate is essential for cellular integrity and metabolism, yet inorganic phosphate is often the limiting nutrient for most aquatic environments.

Change of Hydration Patterns upon RNA Melting Probed by Excitations of Phosphate Backbone Vibrations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The water hydration shell has decisive impact on the structural and functional properties of RNA. Changes of RNA structure upon melting and in biochemical processes are accompanied by a change of hydration patterns, a process which is barely characterized.

Transition behavior of the seizure dynamics modulated by the astrocyte inositol triphosphate noise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder with recurrent seizures of complexity and randomness. Until now, the mechanism of epileptic randomness has not been fully elucidated. Inspired by the recent finding that astrocyte GTPase-activating protein (G-protein)-coupled receptors could be involved in stochastic epileptic seizures, we proposed a neuron-astrocyte

Modification of the zirconia ceramics by different calcium phosphate coatings:comparative study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The aim of this study was to characterize different calcium phosphate coatings and evaluate in vitro cell response of these materials to ceramics implants. The physical and chemical properties of calcium phosphate coatings formed by RF-magnetron sputtering of calcium phosphate tribasic, hydroxyapatite, calcium phosphate monobasic, calcium phosphate ...

Analysis of inositol phosphate metabolism by capillary electrophoresis electrospray ionization mass spectrometry

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Myo-Inositol phosphates (InsPs) and pyrophosphates (PP-InsPs) are important second messengers but their analysis remains challenging. Here, the authors develop a capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry method for the identification and quantitation ...

Elucidation of Inverse Agonist Activity of Bilastine

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2020
H1-antihistamines antagonize histamine and prevent it from binding to the histamine H1 receptor (H1R). Some of them also act as inverse agonists, which are more potent than pure antagonists because they suppress the constitutive H1R activity.

Protein aggregation and neurodegenerative disease: Structural outlook for the novel therapeutics

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Before the controversial approval of humanized monoclonal antibody lecanemab, which binds to the soluble amyloid‐β protofibrils, all the treatments available earlier, for Alzheimer's disease (AD) were symptomatic. The researchers are still struggling to find a breakthrough in AD therapeutic medicine, which is partially attributable to lack in ...

Ancient and recent collisions revealed by phosphate minerals in the Chelyabinsk meteorite [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
The collision history of asteroids is an important archive of inner Solar System evolution. Evidence for these collisions is brought to Earth by meteorites, which can preserve impact-reset radioisotope mineral ages. However, as meteorites often preserve numerous mineral ages, their interpretation is controversial. Here, we combine analysis of phosphate

Contact Ion Pairs of Phosphate Groups in Water -- Two-Dimensional Infrared Spectroscopy of Dimethyl-Phosphate and Ab-Initio Simulations [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Phys. Chem. Lett. 2019, 10, 6281-6286, 2019
The interaction of phosphate groups with ions in an aqueous environment has a strong impact on the structure and folding processes of DNA and RNA. The dynamic variety of ionic arrangements, including both contact pairs and water separated ions, and the molecular coupling mechanisms are far from being understood.
