The Intrathymic Expression of Insulin-Related Genes: Implications for Pathophysiology and Prevention of Type 1 Diabetes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
peer reviewedRecent experimental work has challenged and shattered the old concept of a sequestration of pancreatic islet antigens from developing T-cells within the thymic environment.

Understanding IGF-II Action through Insights into Receptor Binding and Activation

open access: yesCells, 2020
The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system regulates metabolic and mitogenic signaling through an intricate network of related receptors and hormones. IGF-II is one of several hormones within this system that primarily regulates mitogenic functions and ...

Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-II- mediated fibrosis in pathogenic lung conditions.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Type 2 insulin-like growth factor (IGF-II) levels are increased in fibrosing lung diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and scleroderma/systemic sclerosis-associated pulmonary fibrosis (SSc). Our goal was to investigate the contribution of

Expression of the insulin-like growth factor-II/mannose-6-phosphate receptor in multiple human tissues during fetal life and early infancy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The insulin like growth factor-II/mannose-6-phosphate (IGF-II/M6P) receptor has been detected in many cells and tissues. In the rat, there is a dramatic developmental regulation of IGF-II/M6P receptor expression, the receptor being high in fetal and ...

Liver mitochondrial dysfunction is reverted by insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II) in aging rats

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2011
Background Serum IGF-I and IGF-II levels decline with age. IGF-I replacement therapy reduces the impact of age in rats. We have recently reported that IGF-II is able to act, in part, as an analogous of IGF-I in aging rats reducing oxidative damage in ...

Comparative Effectiveness of Structural versus Regulatory Protein Gene Transfer on Articular Chondrocyte Matrix Gene Expression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
OBJECTIVE: The production of extracellular matrix is a necessary component of articular cartilage repair. Gene transfer is a promising method to improve matrix biosynthesis by articular chondrocytes.

Radioimmunoassay for Insulin-Like Growth Factor II(IGF-II).

open access: yesEndocrinologia Japonica, 1990
Insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II) levels in human plasma were measured in physiological and pathological conditions by radioimmunoassay (RIA) with biosynthetic IGF-II. This RIA was specific for IGF-II and cross-reactivity with IGF-I was 1%. The sensitivity was 15 pg/tube with 50% displacement at 50 pg/tube.

Insulin-like growth factors: Ligands, binding proteins, and receptors

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism, 2021
Background: The insulin-like growth factor family of ligands (IGF-I, IGF-II, and insulin), receptors (IGF-IR, M6P/IGF-IIR, and insulin receptor [IR]), and IGF-binding proteins (IGFBP-1-6) play critical roles in normal human physiology and disease states.

Severe paraneoplastic hypoglycemia in a patient with a gastrointestinal stromal tumor with an exon 9 mutation: a case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Background Non-islet cell tumor induced hypoglycemia (NICTH) is a very rare phenomenon, but even more so in gastrointestinal stromal tumors. It tends to present in large or metastatic tumors, and can appear at any time in the progression of the disease ...
