Dapagliflozin prevents methylglyoxal‐induced retinal cell death in ARPE‐19 cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Diabetic macular oedema is a diabetes complication of the eye, which may lead to permanent blindness. ARPE‐19 are human retinal cells used to study retinal diseases and potential therapeutics. Methylglyoxal is a compound increased in uncontrolled diabetes due to elevated blood glucose.

Icariin Attenuates Amyloid-β (Aβ)-Induced Neuronal Insulin Resistance Through PTEN Downregulation

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2020
Neuronal insulin resistance is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases. Icariin has been reported to improve insulin resistance in skeletal muscle cells and to restore impaired hypothalamic insulin signaling in the rats with chronic unpredictable mild ...

TyG index and insulin resistance in beta-thalassemia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Insulin resistance (IR) underlies some glucose metabolism abnormalities in thalassemia major. Recently, triglyceride glucose index (TyG) has been proposed for evaluating insulin resistance as a simple, low cost, and accessible tool.

Erythropoietin modulates hepatic inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and soluble epoxide hydrolase and epoxides in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

Effects of habitual endurance and resistance exercise on insulin action in primary human skeletal muscle stem cells

open access: yesPhysiological Reports
Endurance‐oriented exercise typically enhances insulin action in skeletal muscle; however, relatively little is known about the impact of resistance exercise. In the present study, insulin action was determined in primary human skeletal muscle stem cells

Insulin Resistance: From Theory To Practice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Insulin resistance is at the core of the well recognised metabolic syndrome and possibly many other ailments commonly seen in the modern society. While the quantification of insulin resistance remains a difficult task, the problems associated with it are

Insulin resistance syndrome.

open access: yesNihon Naika Gakkai Zasshi, 1996

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Pathophysiology of Prediabetes Hyperinsulinemia and Insulin Resistance in the Cardiovascular System

open access: yesBiomedicines
Hyperinsulinemia refers to an elevated level of circulating insulin (80 and 100 µU/mL), often leading to metabolic disorders such as obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Natural Products as Geroprotective Modulators in Diabetic Nephropathy: A Mechanistic Framework Integrating Aging Hallmarks and the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 Axis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Natural products target the aging kidney in diabetic nephropathy by restoring the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 axis, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular senescence while enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.
