α5β1-Integrin promotes tension-dependent mammary epithelial cell invasion by engaging the fibronectin synergy site. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Tumors are fibrotic and characterized by abundant, remodeled, and cross-linked collagen that stiffens the extracellular matrix stroma. The stiffened collagenous stroma fosters malignant transformation of the tissue by increasing tumor cell tension to ...

Cancer associated fibroblasts predict for poor outcome and promote periostin-dependent invasion in oesophageal adenocarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Interactions between cancer cells and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF) play an important role in tumour development and progression. In this study we investigated the functional role of CAF in oesophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC).

The binding of monomeric C-reactive protein (mCRP) to Integrins αvβ3 and α4β1 is related to its pro-inflammatory action.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The prototypic acute phase reactant C-reactive protein (CRP) is not only a marker but also a potential contributor to inflammatory diseases. CRP exists as the circulating native, pentameric CRP (pCRP) and the monomeric isoform (mCRP), formed as a result ...

Selective αv integrin depletion identifies a core, targetable molecular pathway that regulates fibrosis across solid organs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Myofibroblasts are the major source of extracellular matrix components that accumulate during tissue fibrosis, and hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are the major source of myofibroblasts in the liver.

Bioanalytical TERS and Advanced Data Processing Methods

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Tip‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy delivers label‐free, subnanometer vibrational imaging of biological systems. Recent advances in instrumentation, data analysis, and ambient/liquid operation enable surface‐selective mapping of molecular heterogeneity in proteins, nucleic acids, membranes, and viruses, positioning TERS as a powerful platform for nanoscale

The Role of αvβ3 Integrin in Cancer Therapy Resistance

open access: yesBiomedicines
A relevant challenge for the treatment of patients with neoplasia is the development of resistance to chemo-, immune-, and radiotherapies. Although the causes of therapy resistance are poorly understood, evidence suggests it relies on compensatory ...

Epigallocatechin‐3‐Gallate Suppresses Glioma by Targeting Integrin αvβ3/FAK/ERK Signaling Axis and Matrix Metalloproteinases

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
EGCG suppresses glioma progression by targeting integrin αvβ3/FAK/ERK signaling and inhibiting MMP‐2/MMP‐9‐mediated ECM degradation, thereby blocking proliferation, migration, invasion, and promoting apoptosis. ABSTRACT Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate (EGCG), the most abundant and biologically active catechin in green tea, has been widely reported to ...

Redox‐responsive dual‐drug nanomedicine integrating cisplatin and trypsin for synergistic reversal of tumor chemoresistance

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel glutathione‐activatable prodrug nanomedicine (cRGD‐PEG‐PGlu‐NP (ssTrypsin & CDDP)) that co‐encapsulates cisplatin and a masked protease to combat cisplatin resistance. The dual‐drug system selectively targets resistant tumor cells, enhancing the efficacy of cisplatin while minimizing systemic toxicity.
