Genetics of the Human Interferon Lambda Region

open access: yesJournal of Interferon and Cytokine Research, 2019
Humans are polymorphic in their ability to produce type-III interferons. Most individuals of African ancestry are genetically capable of generating all 4 type-III interferons (IFN-λ1, 2, 3, and 4), whereas the majority of individuals of European and Asian ancestry lack IFN-λ4 and thus can generate only IFN-λ1, 2, and 3.

Interferon Lambda and Liver Fibrosis

Journal of Interferon and Cytokine Research, 2019
Fibrosis is a highly conserved and coordinated wound healing response to injury. In the liver, injury is promoted by immune effector mechanisms that are common across various disease etiologies and even between organs such as lungs, kidneys, heart, and other organs.

Interferon Lambda: Modulating Immunity in Infectious Diseases [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2017
Interferon lambdas (IFN-λs; IFNL1-4) modulate immunity in the context of infections and autoimmune diseases, through a network of induced genes. IFN-λs act by binding to the heterodimeric IFN-λ receptor (IFNLR), activating a STAT phosphorylation-dependent signaling cascade.

Lambda interferons in immunity and autoimmunity

Journal of Autoimmunity, 2019
Type I IFNs are well known players in immunity and autoimmunity. They induce potent innate and adaptive immune responses essential for mediating host defenses against viral and bacterial infections but also driving inflammation during chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
