Modifying effect of a common polymorphism in the interleukin-6 promoter on the relationship between long-term exposure to traffic-related particulate matter and heart rate variability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Exposure to particulate matter (PM) has been associated with an increase in many inflammatory markers, including interleukin 6 (IL6). Air pollution exposure has also been suggested to induce an imbalance in the autonomic nervous system (ANS), such as a ...

Loss of AMBRA1 activates MAPK and angiogenesis signaling pathways in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Loss of AMBRA1 in melanoma cells activates multiple oncogenic pathways associated with tumor progression. Transcriptomic and protein network analyses revealed that AMBRA1 depletion enhances MAPK/ERK signaling, angiogenesis, TGF‐β/EMT signaling, and Wnt/axon guidance pathways.

Correlation of Preoperative NLR, IL-35 and MTA2 with Postoperative Recurrence and Metastasis in Patients with Prostate Cancer

open access: yesGuoji laonian yixue zazhi
Objective To investigate the predictive value of preoperative neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), interleukin-35 (IL-35) and metastasis-associated protein 2 (MTA2) for postoperative recurrence and metastasis in patients with prostate cancer.

IGF2 knockout reduces but does not abolish osteosarcoma growth in vitro and in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
To test whether endogenous IGF2 promotes osteosarcoma growth, IGF2 was knocked out in Saos2 cells via CRISPR‐Cas9. KO cells showed reduced proliferation in vitro, and knockout xenografts in mice reached only ~25% of wild‐type tumor volume. Insulin‐like growth factor 2 (IGF2) is implicated in osteosarcoma, but direct functional evidence of its role is ...

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...

Interleukin-35 Inhibits TNF-α-Induced Osteoclastogenesis and Promotes Apoptosis via Shifting the Activation From TNF Receptor-Associated Death Domain (TRADD)–TRAF2 to TRADD–Fas-Associated Death Domain by JAK1/STAT1

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Over-activated osteoclasts derived from myeloid or peripheral blood monocytes by inflammatory cytokines results in osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and other bone erosion-related diseases.

Decreased Circulating Interleukin-35 Levels Are Related to Interleukin-4-Producing CD8+ T Cells in Patients with Allergic Asthma

open access: yesIranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, 2015
Interleukin (IL)-35 is a newly discovered suppressive cytokine and has been shown to alleviate  inflammatory  and  autoimmune  diseases.  The  purpose  of  this  study  was  to investigate immunomodulatory capacity of IL-35 in patients with allergic ...

Effects of Add‐On Icosapent Ethyl With Standard Treatment on Functional Outcomes and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ischemic stroke, a major cause of mortality and long‐term disability, results from the abrupt cessation of cerebral blood flow due to vascular occlusion or rupture. Icosapent Ethyl (EPA‐EE), approved for hypertriglyceridemia, has anti‐inflammatory and antithrombotic properties that may lessen ischemic damage.
