Expression of Interleukin–6 and Interleukin-6 Receptor in Ovine Oocytes During In vitroMaturation

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2012
To study the effects of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and its receptor (IL-6R) during in vitro maturation of ovine oocytes, the mRNA and protein expression levels of IL-6 and IL-6R, along with their localization, were examined during ovine oocytes maturation in ...

Relationship of Soluble Interleukin-6 Receptors With Asthma: A Mendelian Randomization Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2021
Purpose: Emerging evidence suggests a potential role of interleukin-6 pathways—trans-signaling with soluble interleukin-6 receptors—in the asthma pathobiology.

Increased expression of interleukin-6 gene in gastritis and gastric cancer [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) induces an intense inflammatory response, mediated by proinflammatory cytokines, including interleukin (IL)-6 and its membrane receptor (IL-6R), which activates important signaling pathways in the development of gastric ...

Crohn's disease: Th1, Th17 or both? The change of a paradigm: new immunological and genetic insights implicate Th17 cells in the pathogenesis of Crohn's disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Traditionally, Crohn's disease has been associated with a Th1 cytokine profile, while Th2 cytokines are modulators of ulcerative colitis. This concept has been challenged by the description of tolerising regulatory T cells (Treg) and by proinflammatory ...

Consensus statement on blocking interleukin-6 receptor and interleukin-6 in inflammatory conditions: an update [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the Rheumatic Diseases, 2023
Targeting interleukin (IL)-6 has become a major therapeutic strategy in the treatment of immune-mediated inflammatory disease. Interference with the IL-6 pathway can be directed at the specific receptor using anti-IL-6Rα antibodies or by directly inhibiting the IL-6 cytokine.

Serum level of soluble interleukin 6 receptor is a useful biomarker for identification of treatment‐resistant major depressive disorder

open access: yesNeuropsychopharmacology Reports, 2020
Aim A substantial proportion of major depressive disorder patients are treatment‐resistant to antidepressant therapy, who require augmentation drugs, or other treatments including electroconvulsive therapy or transcranial magnetic stimulation ...

Interleukin-6 signalling in health and disease [version 1; peer review: 3 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2020
Biochemically, interleukin-6 belongs to the class of four-helical cytokines. The cytokine can be synthesised and secreted by many cells. It acts via a cell surface-expressed interleukin-6 receptor, which is not signalling competent.

Soluble interleukin-6 receptor in the COVID-19 cytokine storm syndrome

open access: yesCell Reports Medicine, 2021
Summary: Data suggest that interleukin (IL)-6 blockade could reduce mortality in severe COVID-19, yet IL-6 is only modestly elevated in most patients. Chen et al.

Stabilized Interleukin-6 receptor binding RNA aptamers [PDF]

open access: yesRNA Biology, 2013
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a multifunctional cytokine that is involved in the progression of various inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and certain cancers; for example, multiple myeloma or hepatocellular carcinoma. To interfere with IL-6-dependent diseases, targeting IL-6 receptor (IL-6R)-presenting tumor cells using aptamers might be a ...

Role of Soluble Interleukin-6 Receptor With Interleukin-6 in Human Hematopoiesis

open access: yesHematology, 1997
A complex of soluble interleukin-6 receptor (sIL-6R) and interleukin-6 has been shown to play some roles in human hematopoiesis. It activates gp130 signal to stimulate human erythroid, megakaryocytic and primitive hematopoietic progenitor cells, which express gp130 but not IL-6R, in the presence of c-Kit signal mediated by stem cell factor (SCF).
