Molecular characterization of interleukin 12

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1992
Interleukin 12 (IL-12), formerly known as cytotoxic lymphocyte maturation factor and natural killer cell stimulatory factor, is a cytokine secreted by a human B lymphoblastoid (NC-37) cell line when induced in culture with phorbol ester and calcium ionophore. This factor has been purified to homogeneity and shown to synergize with low concentrations of

Interleukin-12 (IL-12)

1995
Abstract cDNAs for human and murine IL-12 subunits have been cloned (Wolf et al. 1991; Gubler et al. 1991; Schoenhaut et al. 1992). The nucleotide sequences of the p40 subunit from man and mouse (GenBank accession numbers M65292, M65272, and M86671) predict polypeptides of 328 and 335 amino acids, respectively.

The interleukin‐12 subunit p40 specifically inhibits effects of the interleukin‐12 heterodimer

European Journal of Immunology, 1993
AbstractThe recently discovered cytokine interleukin (IL)‐12 is a heterodimeric protein of two disulfide‐bonded subunits of 35 and 40 kDa. IL‐12 has multiple effects on T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. In particular it appears to be a major factor for the development of cellular immunity.

Circulating interleukin-10 and interleukin-12 in Parkinson’s disease

Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, 2009
Interleukin (IL)-12 is a heterodimeric cytokine produced by activated blood monocytes, macrophages and glial cells. It enhances differentiation and proliferation of T cells and increases production of proinflammatory cytokines. IL-10 is a pleiotropic cytokine produced by both lymphocytes and mononuclear phagocytes including microglia.

Interleukin-12 but not interleukin-18 is associated with severe endometriosis

Fertility and Sterility, 2009
To evaluate interleukin (IL)-12 and IL-18 levels in the serum and peritoneal fluid of women with and without endometriosis.Cross-sectional survey.University hospital.Interleukin-12 and IL-18 levels were compared in 105 patients submitted to laparoscopy because of symptoms suggestive of endometriosis (pain and/or infertility).

Genetic evidence for the existence of interleukin-23 and for variation in the interleukin-12 and interleukin-12 receptor genes in the horse

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part D: Genomics and Proteomics, 2006
Immune loci, characterized by features reflecting their role in defense reactions and consequently related to evolutionary mechanisms, including polymorphisms or association with disease are suitable candidates for comparative analysis. Interleukin-12 and related cytokines are key molecules regulating natural and specific immune responses.

Interleukin 12 and autoimmune diabetes

Nature Genetics, 2001
Interleukin 12 (IL-12) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes in the non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse. Following this lead, a new locus associated with human type 1 diabetes, IDDM18, has been identified near the gene encoding the p40 subunit of interleukin 12 (IL12B).
