Cobalt Single‐Atom Nanozyme for Enhanced Intestinal Radioprotection and Tumor Radiosensitization via Bidirectional ROS Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Orally administered, pH‐responsive Co‐SAN exerts dual functions: in the alkaline intestinal milieu, it scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) and suppresses the PI3K/AKT pathway and NETs formation, thus providing radioprotection; whereas in the acidic tumor microenvironment, it generates ROS and alleviates hypoxia, thereby enhancing radiosensitization.

The intestinal mucosa-associated microbiota in IBD-associated arthritis displays lower relative abundance of Roseburia intestinalis

open access: yesGut Microbes
The most common extra-intestinal manifestation (EIM) of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), IBD-associated arthritis (IAA), occurs in 25–40% of patients and can be debilitating.

Mucosal microbiota and metabolome along the intestinal tracts reveals location specific relationship

open access: yesmSystems, 2018
Abstract Background The intestinal microbiota has been recognized as an important component for maintaining human health. The perturbation to its structure has been implicated in many diseases, such as obesity and cancers.

Risk of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Following Hospital‐Treated Infections and Modulatory Role of Host Genetics to Support a Multi‐Hit Pathogenesis Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hospital‐treated infections are linked to increased risk of inflammatory bowel disease in a large prospective cohort. This risk differs by infection burden, time since infection, and host immune‐genetic susceptibility. The findings support a multi‐hit pathogenesis model in which severe infection and inherited susceptibility jointly shape inflammatory ...

Multi-omics association investigation of the relationship between gut microbiota and the development of colorectal cancer

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medical Research
Background The human gut mucosal microbiota is crucially involved in colorectal cancer (CRC) development. However, a comprehensive analysis of host–microbiota interactions remains limited.

Association of intestinal mucosal barrier function with intestinal microbiota in Spleen-Kidney Yang Deficiency IBS-D mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
BackgroundTo establish and evaluate an IBS-D mouse model with Spleen-Kidney Yang Deficiency, explore the microecological mechanisms of IBS-D, and provide experimental evidence for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of IBS-D with Spleen-Kidney Yang ...

Microarray analysis and barcoded pyrosequencing provide consistent microbial profiles depending on the source of human intestinal samples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Large-scale and in-depth characterization of the intestinal microbiota necessitates application of high-throughput 16S rRNA gene-based technologies, such as barcoded pyrosequencing and phylogenetic microarray analysis.

Luminal and Mucosal Microbiota of the Cecum and Large Colon of Healthy and Diarrheic Horses

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
The aim of this study was to compare the mucosal and luminal content microbiota of the cecum and colon of healthy and diarrheic horses. Marked differences in the richness and in the community composition between the mucosal and luminal microbiota of the ...

Targeted β‐Glucan‐Veiled Oral Apremilast Nanotherapy Modulates Key Dysbiosis‐Associated Gut Microbiota and Alleviates Ulcerative Colitis‐Associated Anxiety, Depression, and Neuropsychiatric Behaviors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces β‐glucan‐shielded apremilast laden nanomicelles that withstand gastrointestinal degradation, selectively accumulate in inflamed colon tissue, and modulate the microbiota–gut–brain axis. The formulation restores barrier integrity, reduces systemic and neuroinflammation, and improves anxiety‐ and depression‐like behaviors in colitis

DNA methylation-associated colonic mucosal immune and defense responses in treatment-naïve pediatric ulcerative colitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are emerging globally, indicating that environmental factors may be important in their pathogenesis. Colonic mucosal epigenetic changes, such as DNA methylation, can occur in response to the environment and have been ...
