The Impact of Chelation Therapy on Hepcidin, Ferritin, and Fertility Hormones in Female with Beta Thalassemia Major

open access: yesBaghdad Journal of Biochemistry and Applied Biological Sciences
Background: Chelation therapy plays a crucial role in the management of beta-thalassemia major, a genetic disorder characterized by defective hemoglobin production, resulting in chronic anaemia and iron overload due to frequent blood transfusions ...

The efficacy of iron chelator regimes in reducing cardiac and hepatic iron in patients with thalassaemia major: a clinical observational study

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, 2009
Background Available iron chelation regimes in thalassaemia may achieve different changes in cardiac and hepatic iron as assessed by MR. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of four available iron chelator regimes in 232 thalassaemia major ...

Persistent Zn2+ Influx‐Mediated Deacetylation of ANXA2 Regulates the “Zn2+‐Autophagic Flux” and Alleviates Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zinc transporter SLC39A14 sustains intracellular Zn2+ levels to activate SIRT3‑dependent ANXA2 deacetylation at K302. This modification weakens ANXA2‑mTOR binding and releases autophagic‑flux suppression in nucleus pulposus cells. Dysregulated Zn2+ homeostasis disrupts this axis to drive intervertebral disc degeneration.

Development of a molecular-clinical predictive model for iron overload complications in beta-thalassemia major: Integrating transferrin receptor-2, ferroportin, soluble transferrin receptor, and toxic iron species (nontransferrin-bound iron)

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Hematology
BACKGROUND: Beta-thalassemia major (β-TM) is a hereditary blood disorder requiring lifelong blood transfusions, which result in iron overload and progressive organ damage.

Versatile Microgel Platform for Intervertebral Disc Degeneration Therapy: Targeting Pericyte‐Mediated Fibrosis and Protecting Nucleus Pulposus Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The engineered MMS@TRP microgel enables targeted, acid‐responsive delivery of a miR‐21 inhibitor to pericytes. It effectively suppresses disc fibrosis by inhibiting TGF‐β signaling while protecting nucleus pulposus cells via sustained, antioxidant tannic acid release.

Beliefs about chelation among thalassemia patients

open access: yesHealth and Quality of Life Outcomes, 2012
Background Understanding patients’ views about medication is crucial to maximize adherence. Thalassemia is a congenital blood disorder requiring chronic blood transfusions and daily iron chelation therapy.

Porphyrin‐Based Porous Materials for Antibacterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Porphyrin‐based porous materials have excellent photophysical properties and tunable structures for high‐efficiency antibacterial therapy. This review comprehensively discusses the structural design strategies and synthetic pathways of the four main types of porphyrin‐based porous materials, summarizes their cross‐domain antimicrobial applications, and

Refractory microcytic hypochromic anemia with type I diabetes mellitus and reversible cardiac hemochromatosis in congenital hypotransferrinemia

open access: yesPediatric Hematology Oncology Journal
Background: Hypotransferrinemia is a rare cause of anemia presenting in early childhood. The clinical scenario may mimic iron deficiency anemia at onset with no response to multiple courses of hematinics.

REGIONAL SIDEROSIS: A NEW CHALLENGE FOR IRON CHELATION THERAPY [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The traditional role of iron chelation therapy has been to reduce body iron burden via chelation of excess metal from organs and fluids and its excretion via biliary-fecal and/or urinary routes.
