CaV3 channels are ontogenetically downregulated with the maturation of certain electrically excitable cells, including pancreatic β cells. Abnormally exaggerated CaV3 channels drive the dedifferentiation of mature β cells. This led us to question whether

Studies on reticuloendothelial system and hemato-poiesis, III. Relationship between differentiation of erythroblast and oxygen tension [PDF]
For the purpose to clarify the control mechanism of erythroid cell differentiation, the author observed morphologic changes in bone-marrow cells and circulating red cells in phenylhydrazine anemia of rabbits by introducing a mass of red cells into vein ...

Objective We evaluated the ability of the Renal Activity Index for Lupus (RAIL) to discriminate active lupus nephritis (LN) in adult patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and differentiate LN treatment response. Methods Urine samples from adults with biopsy‐proven active class III and IV LN from TULIP‐LN (active LN group ...

The Hippo terminal effector YAP boosts enterovirus replication in type 1 diabetes
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) risk has been associated with enteroviral infections, particularly coxsackieviruses B (CVB). Cellular host factors contributing to virus-induced islet autoimmunity remain unclear.

β-Cell Death in Diabetes: Past Discoveries, Present Understanding, and Potential Future Advances
β-cell death is regarded as a major event driving loss of insulin secretion and hyperglycemia in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. In this review, we explore past, present, and potential future advances in our understanding of the mechanisms that

Peribiliary glands as a niche of extra-pancreatic precursors yielding insulin-producing cells in experimental and human diabetes [PDF]
Peribiliary glands (PBGs) are niches in the biliary tree and containing heterogeneous endodermal stem/progenitors cells that can differentiate, in vitro and in vivo, towards pancreatic islets.

Objective Clinical response to mycophenolic acid (MPA) is highly heterogeneous; thus, therapeutic drug level monitoring (TDM) may help improve treatment efficacy. This systematic review and meta‐analysis examined therapeutic ranges for MPA levels associated with better outcomes and safety in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE ...

We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.
