Hereditary angioedema as a cause of recurrent abdominal pain in a pediatric patient with Crohn's disease

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare genetic condition caused by deficient or dysfunctional C1 inhibitor protein (C1INH) resulting in episodic angioedema of the skin, upper airway, and gastrointestinal tract. HAE most often presents within the first two decades of life and may cause severe abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, and emesis, making ...

Real-time polymerase chain reaction as an alternative method for diagnosis of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis: can it stand alone in this concern

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Bronchology, 2017
Background Delays in diagnosing multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) are responsible for higher tuberculosis morbidity and mortality and its subsequent transmission. Molecular assays such as real-time PCR (RT-PCR) used to identify drug resistance in

Isolated anal tuberculosis presenting as an anal fistula in an immunocompetent child

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Extra‐pulmonary tuberculosis accounts for less than 15% of all tuberculosis cases, while intestinal tuberculosis accounts for less than 1% of extra‐pulmonary forms of the disease. Abdominal organ involvement is more common, but extension to the ano‐perineal region is extremely rare.

Clofazimine, but Not Isoniazid or Rifampicin, Augments Platelet Activation in vitro

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2018
Although the inclusion of the cationic amphiphilic, anti-mycobacterial agent, clofazimine, in the chemotherapeutic regimens of patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) has contributed to improved outcomes, concerns remain about the cardiotoxic

Alopecia caused by isoniazid

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapeutics, 2014
Drug-induced alopecia is a known clinical entity and mainly seen with anti-mitotic drug therapy. Alopecia during anti-tuberculosis therapy is very uncommon and previously observed with isoniazid, thiacetazone, and ethionamide. Present communication describes an additional case of isoniazid-induced alopecia in a 10-year-old male child, which was ...

The Role of Trisodium Phosphate as a Corrosion Inhibitor for Gray Cast Iron in Automotive Braking Systems: Mechanisms and Challenges

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
Trisodium phosphate is selected for its availability and solubility to assess its effect on gray cast iron corrosion in automotive braking systems. The investigation is conducted in acidic and slightly alkaline chloride media to replicate conditions at the disc–friction material interface. In acidic media, it behaves as a mixed‐type inhibitor.
