Chemoprevention by isothiocyanates
Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, 1995Naturally occurring and synthetic isothiocyanates are among the most effective chemopreventive agents known. A wide variety of isothiocyanates prevents cancer in the rat lung, mammary gland, esophagus, liver, small intestine, colon, and bladder. Mechanistic studies have shown that this chemopreventive activity is due to favorable modification of phase ...

INHIBITION OF CARCINOGENESIS BY ISOTHIOCYANATES*
Drug Metabolism Reviews, 2000Isothiocyanates occur as conjugates in a wide variety of cruciferous vegetables. Consumption of normal amounts of these vegetables results in the uptake of substantial quantities of isothiocyanates. These naturally occurring isothiocyanates as well as many synthetic analogs can be powerful inhibitors of carcinogenesis in laboratory animals ...

Isothiocyanates in Cancer Prevention
Drug Metabolism Reviews, 2004Isothiocyanates are sulfur-containing compounds which are largely responsible for the typical flavor of cruciferous vegetables. In animals and humans they are conjugated with glutathione; the first product of this reaction is a dithiocarbamate, which can be ultimately metabolized to the corresponding mercapturic acid, excreted in urine.

The reaction of fluorescein isothiocyanate with thiols: A method for assay of isothiocyanates
Analytical Biochemistry, 1983The reversible formation of dithiourethanes from fluorescein isothiocyanate and mercaptoethanol or mercaptoethylamine has been studied. It is shown that it is possible to use the reaction as the basis for a spectrophotometric titration of a number of isothiocyanates with mercaptoethanol.

Synthesis of Isothiocyanates: An Update
Synthesis, 2019Isothiocyanates (ICTs) are a group of molecules that can be used for many different purposes, they exhibit anticancer, antimicrobial, antibiotic, and anti-inflammatory properties. The synthesis of isothiocyanates has been a focus of many researchers for nearly the past 100 years.

Isothiocyanates and Xenobiotic Detoxification
Molecular Nutrition & Food Research, 2018AbstractThe potential of isothiocyanates to antagonize the carcinogenicity of structurally diverse chemicals has been established in animals. A feasible mechanism of action involves protecting DNA by reducing the availability of the genotoxic metabolites of chemical carcinogens by either inhibiting their generation and/or stimulating their ...

Chemopreventive Functions of Isothiocyanates
Drug News & Perspectives, 2005Numerous animal and epidemiological studies have demonstrated that consumption of cruciferous vegetables is inversely correlated with the cancer incidence. Strong anticarcinogenic activities of cruciferous vegetables are attributed to the high abundance of glucosinolates.

Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of isothiocyanates
Drug Metabolism Reviews, 2011Isothiocyanates from Brassica vegetables are of great interest for use in the cure of bacterial infections, as is their potential application in the prevention and treatment of cancer. Although much information is available on their mode of action within the cell, when it comes to the question of whether the necessary pharmacologic concentration has ...
