Clonal spread of Klebsiella pneumoniae producing OXA-1 betalactamase in a Spanish hospital [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Multi-drug resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates are associated with nosocomial infections, in which colonized patients act as a reservoir and source of cross-infection for other patients.

Estimating the number of infections caused by antibiotic-resistant Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in 2014: a modelling study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: The number of infections caused by resistant organisms is largely unknown. We estimated the number of infections worldwide that are caused by the WHO priority pathogens third-generation cephalosporin-resistant and carbapenem-resistant ...

Green Fuel Combustion Synthesis of CeO2 and Ag/CeO2 Nanoparticles for Photocatalytic and Antibacterial Applications

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Silver‐doped cerium oxide nanoparticles (Ag/CeO2 NPs) were synthesized using Ricinus communis seed extract as a bio‐derived fuel in a solution combustion method. The combustion reaction, carried out at 450°C with AgNO3 and (NH4)2[Ce (NO3)6] as metal precursors, produced CeO2 and Ag/CeO2 NPs.

Overcoming Klebsiella pneumoniae antibiotic resistance: new insights into mechanisms and drug discovery

open access: yesBeni-Suef University Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences
Background Due to antibiotic overuse, numerous organisms have evolved multidrug resistance, a global health crisis. Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) causes respiratory, biliary, and urinary infections.

Dr. Hans Kohn and the political takeover of the Berlin Medical Society by the National Socialist regime in 1933

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract To solidify their power over society, totalitarian regimes will usually eliminate any dissent, any perceived threats early on. These threats include not only political enemies but also educated and independent segments of society, such as professional associations.

Therapeutic drug monitoring of antimicrobials in a paediatric setting: A retrospective single‐centre study

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Paediatric pharmacokinetics differ significantly from adults due to age‐related physiological changes, necessitating precise dose adjustments. However, data on therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) implementation in paediatric setting remain limited.

Prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of extended-spectrum β-lactamases-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae strains isolated in a university hospital in Split, Croatia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The prevalence of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae that produce extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL) was investigated in patients of a university hospital in Split, Croatia. Patients were grouped according to age (pediatric vs.

Engineered Bacterial Ligand From Streptococcus pneumoniae on Macroporous Resins for Selective Affinity Capture of Secretory IgA

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) is a promising emerging biopharmaceutical candidate, but it currently lacks a standardized platform for purification. To address this, a novel affinity chromatography resin was developed by immobilizing protein variants of the Streptococcus pneumoniae surface protein, SpsA, as an affinity ligand.

Function and mechanism of miRNAs during the process of Klebsiella pneumoniae infection

open access: yesBiomolecules & Biomedicine
Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae), a Gram-negative bacterium, is a major cause of nosocomial infections and can lead to severe, widespread infections. The rise of hypervirulent and multidrug-resistant K. pneumoniae presents significant challenges to

Engineering of CoA‐Acylating Butyraldehyde Dehydrogenase for Enhanced 1,3‐Butanediol Production in Escherichia coli

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microbial production of 1,3‐butanediol (1,3‐BDO) offers a renewable route to this versatile C4 chemical. However, the low performance of CoA‐acylating butyraldehyde dehydrogenase (Bld), which contains a catalytic cysteine, limits efficient production in recombinant Escherichia coli (E. coli).
