Aptamer-Based Biosensors for Antibiotic Detection: A Review

open access: yesBiosensors, 2018
Antibiotic resistance and, accordingly, their pollution because of uncontrolled usage has emerged as a serious problem in recent years. Hence, there is an increased demand to develop robust, easy, and sensitive methods for rapid evaluation of antibiotics

Incidence of adverse drug events among patients on second line anti-tuberculosis regimen in the littoral region of cameroon

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mycobacteriology, 2021
Background: An adverse drug event (ADE) is an injury resulting from medical intervention associated with a drug. This study assesses the incidence of ADEs among participants on second-line drugs for tuberculosis (TB) in Cameroon.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Synergistic Antimicrobial Effects of Baicalin Combined with Kanamycin Against MRSA: Underlying Mechanisms and Diminished Colonization on Lettuce

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
Background: The treatment of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections is extremely challenging due to its antibiotic resistance, and the combination of plant active ingredients with antibiotics represents a potential strategy to ...

Conformational Response of 30S-bound IF3 to A-Site Binders Streptomycin and Kanamycin

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2016
Aminoglycoside antibiotics are widely used to treat infectious diseases. Among them, streptomycin and kanamycin (and derivatives) are of importance to battle multidrug-resistant (MDR) Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Electrochemical Aptasensor based on the Hybridization Chain Reaction for Kanamycin Detection

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2021
In this work, a novel electrochemical aptamer sensor was fabricated for the sensitive and label-free detection of kanamycin in milk. The kanamycin aptamer was fixed on the magnetic nanoparticle for capturing kanamycin or complementary probe.
