Kampo Medicine, 2003 九味檳榔湯は浅田宗伯の創方であり脚気様症状を呈する水毒体質者によく用いられる処方である。今回, 提示した九味檳榔湯の有効例と無効例においては水滞および軽度の〓血の症候が共通していたが気鬱の症候としての腹部の鼓音の分布が異なっていた。そこで水滞の症候と腹部の鼓音を同時に有する30症例を対象として九味檳榔湯を4週間投与して, その有効性を検討した。その結果, 腹部の右腸骨窩, 右側腹部, 右季肋部の3区画にまでガスが存在する際には25症例中の20例で九味檳榔湯が有効であった。一方, 心窩部, 左季肋部, 左側腹部, 左腸骨窩にのみに鼓音が限局している場合には5症例ともに無効であった。以上のことから腹部右側の鼓音の存在は九味檳榔湯を使用する際の一つの目標になりうるものと考えられた。
