Sterol content of the Myxomycetes Physarum polycephalum and P. flavicomum
The sterol content of two Myxomycetes, Physarum polycephalum and P. flavicomum has been examined. The sterols of the two species are apparently identical, the two major sterols in each being poriferasterol and 22-dihydroporiferasterol.

The structure of the title compound, C32H51NO6, was determined from 62-year-old crystals at room temperature and refined with 100 K data in a monoclinic (C2) space group. This compound with a triterpenoid structure, now confirmed by this study, played an

Ergosterol reduction impairs mitochondrial DNA maintenance in S. cerevisiae [PDF]
Sterols are essential lipids, involved in many biological processes. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the enzymes of the ergosterol biosynthetic pathway (Erg proteins) are localized in different cellular compartments.

Besnoitia besnoiti infection alters both endogenous cholesterol de novo synthesis and exogenous LDL uptake in host endothelial cells [PDF]
Besnoitia besnoiti, an apicomplexan parasite of cattle being considered as emergent in Europe, replicates fast in host endothelial cells during acute infection and is in considerable need for energy, lipids and other building blocks for offspring ...

Preparation and properties of a cell-free system from rat skin that catalyzes sterol biosynthesis
Homogenates of epidermis from rat skin were centrifuged at 10,000 · g for 20 min. The supernatant fraction (“whole homogenate”) catalyzed the demethylation of lanosterol (C30) to yield C27-sterols. The rate of reaction was measured by the rate of release

Pubertal presentation in seven patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia due to P450 Oxidoreductase deficiency [PDF]
Context: P450 oxidoreductase (POR) is a crucial electron donor to all microsomal P450 cytochrome (CYP) enzymes including 17α-hydroxylase (CYP17A1), 21-hydroxylase (CYP21A2) and P450 aromatase.

Lanosterol Synthase in Dicotyledonous Plants [PDF]
Sterols are important as structural components of plasma membranes and precursors of steroidal hormones in both animals and plants. Plant sterols show a wide structural variety and significant structural differences from those of animals. To elucidate the origin of structural diversity in plant sterols, their biosynthesis has been extensively studied ...

Plant oxidosqualene metabolism: cycloartenol synthase-dependent sterol biosynthesis in Nicotiana benthamiana. [PDF]
The plant sterol pathway exhibits a major biosynthetic difference as compared with that of metazoans. The committed sterol precursor is the pentacyclic cycloartenol (9β,19-cyclolanost-24-en-3β-ol) and not lanosterol (lanosta-8,24-dien-3β-ol), as it was ...
