Cell migration induced by Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis, Leishmania (Leishmania) major and Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis into the peritoneal cavity of BALB/c mice

open access: yesJournal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases, 2010
In American cutaneous leishmaniasis, the initial infection phase is characterized by recruitment of neutrophils and monocytes. The migration of these cells in response to the presence of Leishmania in the peritoneum of affected animals remains unclear ...

Comparative two-dimensional gel electrophoresis maps for promastigotes of Leishmania amazonensis and Leishmania major

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases
The outcome of Leishmania infections is determined by both the parasite species and the host genetic makeup. While much has been learned regarding immune responses to this parasite, our knowledge on parasite-derived factors is limited.

CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM INVOLVEMENT IN EXPERIMENTAL INFECTION WITH LEISHMANIA (LEISHMANIA) AMAZONENSIS

open access: yesThe American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2003
We describe the pathologic alterations of the central nervous system (CNS) observed in experimental tegumentary leishmaniasis in BALB/c and Swiss mice. The mice were subcutaneously infected with 104 amastigotes of Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis. Animals were killed and brains were removed for histologic and immunocytochemical studies.

Immunogold labeling and cerium cytochemistry of the enzyme ecto-5'-nucleotidase in promastigote forms of Leishmania species

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1993
We have applied both enzyme cytochemistry and immunological labeling techniques to characterize the enzyme 5'-nucleotidase (5'-Nase), at the ultrastructural level, in promastigote forms of four Leishmania species: Leishmania amazonensis, Leishmania ...

Eco-epidemiological aspects, natural detection and molecular identification of Leishmania spp. in Lutzomyia reburra, Lutzomyia barrettoi majuscula and Lutzomyia trapidoi

open access: yesBiomédica: revista del Instituto Nacional de Salud, 2017
Introduction: The province of Pichincha in Ecuador is an endemic area of cutaneous leishmaniasis, where anthropophilic sand flies with natural infection by Leishmania, have been reported as vectors.

Leishmania amazonensis exhibits phosphatidylserine-dependent procoagulant activity, a process that is counteracted by sandfly saliva

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2013
Leishmania parasites expose phosphatidylserine (PS) on their surface, a process that has been associated with regulation of host's immune responses.

Anti-leishmanial Activity of Justicidone and its Synthetic Precursors

open access: yesNatural Product Communications, 2007
Justicidone, a C-5, C-8 dioxo-lignan of the arylnaphthalene type isolated from Justicia hyssopifolia, and its synthetic precursors were tested for the activity against Leishmania braziliensis and Leishmania amazonensis promastigotes in vitro. Justicidone

Assessment of PCR in the detection of Leishmania spp in experimentally infected individual phlebotomine sandflies (Diptera: Psychodidae: Phlebotominae)

open access: yesRevista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo, 2002
DNA amplification by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was applied in the investigation of the presence of Leishmania (Kinetoplastida: Trypanosomatidae) parasites in single phlebotomine sandflies.

Efeito leishmanicida in vitro do látex de Croton lechleri (Euphorbiaceae)
