Leishmania mexicana potential drug target

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2012
We have been studying the Leishmania mexicana protein kinase Lmx‐MPK1. Lmx‐MPK1 is required for parasite viability in the host and represents a potential therapeutic target. We have been studying the interaction of the human p38 mitogen‐activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK) inhibitor, BIRB 796, with Lmx‐ MPK1.

Different Derivatives of Plumbagin Analogue: Bioavailability and Their Toxicity Studies

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2025.
Plumbagin, discovered in Plumbago zeylanica, has potential therapeutic effects such as anticancer, antimicrobial, and anti‐inflammatory characteristics. It has traditionally been used to treat anemia and rheumatic pain, but its therapeutic application is limited because of low bioavailability and toxicity risk factors.

IL‐12 and IFN‐γ in Response to Leishmania Infantum Antigens in Felines From an Endemic Area for Visceral Leishmaniasis

open access: yesParasite Immunology, Volume 47, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Visceral leishmaniasis is a potentially fatal zoonosis with an increasing incidence. Most infected felines present the disease in its subclinical form and demonstrate greater resistance to parasitemia than dogs. However, the role of cellular immunity in felines is still poorly understood. This study measured serum levels of interleukin (IL)‐12

A novel approach for feline sporotrichosis pathogen detection based on loop‐mediated isothermal amplification

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 36, Issue 4, Page 474-484, August 2025.
Background – Sporotrichosis is a chronic, mycotic infection caused by fungi of the genus Sporothrix. Zoonotic sporotrichosis occurs mainly through S. brasiliensis transmission, resulting from the organism's traumatic introduction via scratches or bites, or contact with exudate from contaminated cats.

Integration of Machine Learning‐QSAR and Polypharmacology in Drug Discovery for Leishmaniasis Using Natural and Repurposed Compounds

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 10, Issue 21, June 4, 2025.
Leishmaniasis affects over 1 billion people worldwide, with current treatments limited by toxicity and efficacy. This study used machine learning (ML), QSAR, and polypharmacology to identify potential drug candidates, analyzing 12,072 compounds with random forest and XGBoost models.

Analysis of Kinetoplast DNA from Mexican Isolates of Leishmania (L.) mexicana

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Perspectives on Infectious Diseases, 2012
This study analyzed DNA minicircles of Mexican isolates of L. (Leishmania) mexicana to look for genetic differences between strains isolated from patients with diffuse cutaneous (DCL) and localized (LCL) leishmaniasis.

Prevalence of Leishmania species among patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis in Qassim province of Saudi Arabia

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2019
Background Leishmaniasis is a parasitic infection endemic in more than ninety countries of the world. The cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a most common form of leishmaniasis and it remains to be a major public health issue in Saudi Arabia. This study was

Profiling Serine Hydrolases in the Leishmania Host–Pathogen Interactome Using Cell‐Permeable Activity‐Based Fluorophosphonate Probes

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 26, Issue 10, May 27, 2025.
Leishmaniasis poses a global health challenge with limited treatment options and rising drug resistance. Activity‐based protein profiling using fluorophosphonate probes is employed to profile serine hydrolases, key virulence factors in Leishmania mexicana.

The Inactive X Chromosome: A Genetic Driver of Female‐Biased Rheumatic Autoimmune Disorders?

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, Volume 55, Issue 5, May 2025.
Recent works indicate that several X‐linked genetic mechanisms contribute to the female predisposition for autoimmune diseases. Here, we review the recent findings that underscore the significance of the alteration of X chromosome inactivation (XCI) maintenance and the putative role of the long noncoding XIST/Xist RNA in this process but also as a sex ...
