The Role of Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators in Cystic Fibrosis Airways Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2020
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a recessive genetic disease due to mutations of the Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) gene encoding the CFTR chloride channel. The ion transport abnormalities related to CFTR mutation generate a dehydrated

Synthesis of aromatic lactone analogues of Lipoxin A4

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2022
Objective Synthesis of novel aromatic Lipoxin A4 lactone analogues. Results Novel para-substituted aromatic lactone analogues of Lipoxin A4 have been synthesized in a convergent manner with six steps in the longest linear sequence in 12–13% yields ...

Lipoxins, Aspirin-Triggered Epi-Lipoxins, Lipoxin Stable Analogues, and the Resolution of Inflammation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Society of Nephrology, 2002
Lipoxins (LX) are eicosanoids with antiinflammatory activity in glomerulonephritis (GN) and inflammatory diseases, hypersensitivity, and ischemia reperfusion injury. It has been demonstrated that LXA(4) stimulates non-phlogistic phagocytosis of apoptotic polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) by monocyte-derived macrophages (Mphi) in vitro, suggesting a ...

Lipoxin A4 Reduces Ventilator-Induced Lung Injury in Rats with Large-Volume Mechanical Ventilation

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2020
Ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) is a severe and inevitable complication in patients who require mechanical ventilation (MV) for respiratory support. Lipoxin A4 is an endogenous anti-inflammatory and antioxidant mediator.

Lipoxins reduce obesity-induced adipose tissue inflammation in 3D-cultured human adipocytes and explant cultures

open access: yesiScience, 2022
Summary: Adipose tissue inflammation drives obesity-related cardiometabolic diseases. Enhancing endogenous resolution mechanisms through administration of lipoxin A4, a specialized pro-resolving lipid mediator, was shown to reduce adipose inflammation ...

Lipoxin A4 yields an electrophilic 15-oxo metabolite that mediates FPR2 receptor-independent anti-inflammatory signaling

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research
The enzymatic oxidation of arachidonic acid is proposed to yield trihydroxytetraene species (termed lipoxins) that resolve inflammation via ligand activation of the formyl peptide receptor, FPR2.

Lipoxins in the Nervous System: Brighter Prospects for Neuroprotection

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
Lipoxins (LXs) are generated from arachidonic acid and are involved in the resolution of inflammation and confer protection in a variety of pathological processes.

Metabolome Diversity Enhances Resistance of Intertidal Clams to Thermal Stress

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Meretrix species are widely distributed intertidal bivalves in China with significant ecological and economic importance, which are sensitive to thermal stress. Our results showed that thermal environments of clam habitats shaped metabolome diversity, which can enhance the resistance of intertidal clams to thermal stress.

Lipoxin receptor agonist and inhibition of LTA4 hydrolase prevent tight junction disruption caused by P. aeruginosa filtrate in airway epithelial cells.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
Airway diseases can disrupt tight junction proteins, compromising the epithelial barrier and making it more permeable to pathogens. In people with pulmonary disease who are prone to infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, pro-inflammatory leukotrienes are

1H NMR metabolomics and lipidomics analysis of neutrophils reveals biomarkers of ageing, inflammageing and frailty

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Using 1H NMR metabolomics, we measured polar and lipid metabolites from human blood neutrophils from people with frailty (n = 31, mean age 84Y), people with rheumatoid arthritis (n = 16, mean age 55Y), robust older (n = 24, mean age 66Y) and healthy younger people (n = 21, mean age 22Y).
