Inflammation Triggers Liver X Receptor-Dependent Lipogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Biology, 2020
Immune cell function can be modulated by changes in lipid metabolism. Our studies indicate that cholesterol and fatty acid synthesis increases in macrophages between 12 and 18 h after the activation of Toll-like receptors with proinflammatory stimuli and that the upregulation of lipogenesis may contribute to the resolution of inflammation.

High-fructose diet downregulates long-chain acyl-CoA synthetase 3 expression in liver of hamsters via impairing LXR/RXR signaling pathway[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2013
Long-chain acyl-CoA synthetases (ACSL) play key roles in fatty acid metabolism in liver and other metabolic tissues in an isozyme-specific manner. In this study, we examined the effects of a fructose-enriched diet on expressions of ACSL isoforms in the ...

Phosphorylation of the liver X receptors [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2006
The liver X receptors (LXRs) function as nutritional sensors for cholesterol and have important roles in lipid metabolism, glucose homeostasis, and inflammation. We provide the first evidence that LXRs are phosphorylated proteins. Mutational analysis and metabolic labeling indicate LXRα is phosphorylated on serine 198 in the hinge region.

Nuclear Receptors as Targets for Drug Development: Regulation of Cholesterol and Bile Acid Metabolism by Nuclear Receptors

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2005
Nuclear receptors are ligand-dependent transcription factors that recently have been shown to play important roles in the metabolism of cholesterol and bile acids.

Liver X Receptors and Male (In)fertility [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2019
Liver X receptors (LXRs) are ligand-dependent transcription factors acting as ‘cholesterol sensors’ to regulate lipid homeostasis in cells. The two isoforms, LXRα (NR1H3) and LXRβ (NR1H2), are differentially expressed, with the former expressed predominantly in metabolically active tissues and the latter more ubiquitously.

The Decrease in Farnesoid X Receptor, Pregnane X Receptor and Constitutive Androstane Receptor in the Liver after Intestinal Ischemia-Reperfusion

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2012
Purpose. Intestinal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) damages remote organs, including the liver, and promotes multi-organ failure (MOF). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying acute liver injury after intestinal I/R have not been completely elucidated ...

Farnesoid X receptor, the bile acid sensing nuclear receptor, in liver regeneration

open access: yesActa Pharmaceutica Sinica B, 2015
The liver is unique in regenerative potential, which could recover the lost mass and function after injury from ischemia and resection. The underlying molecular mechanisms of liver regeneration have been extensively studied in the past using the partial ...

Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor and Retinoic X Receptor in Alcoholic Liver Disease

open access: yesPPAR Research, 2009
A growing number of new studies demonstrate that nuclear receptors are involved in the development of alcoholic liver disease (ALD). Ethanol metabolism and RXR/PPAR functions are tightly interconnected in the liver.

Liver X receptor activation promotes differentiation of regulatory T cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
The nuclear receptor Liver X Receptor (LXR) is a ligand-activated transcription factor that has been implicated in control of chronic inflammation by downregulating pro-inflammatory T cell responses.
