New insights into maitotoxin action [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1988
Maitotoxin (3 ng/mol) induced a massive uptake of 45Ca2+ into BC3H1 cells. This effect exhibits a lag phase of 3 min. Inositol diphosphate formation occurred concomittantly with the 45Ca2+ uptake but inositol monophosphate formation was found only after a 5‐min delay following toxin addition.

Plesiomonas: A Review on Food Safety, Fish‐Borne Diseases, and Tilapia

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Fish and fish products are considered a fundamental part of the human diet due to their high nutritional value. Food‐borne diseases are considered a major public health challenge worldwide due to their incidence, associated mortality, and negative economic repercussions. Food safety is the guarantee that foods will not cause harm to the health of those

Synthesis of the ABCDEFG Ring System of Maitotoxin [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2010
Maitotoxin (1) continues to fascinate scientists not only because of its size and potent neurotoxicity but also due to its molecular architecture. To provide further support for its structure and facilitate fragment-based biological studies, we developed an efficient chemical synthesis of the ABCDEFG segment 3 of maitotoxin.

Concerted action of human chorionic gonadotropin and norepinephrine on intracellular-free calcium in human granulosa-lutein cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Luteal cells are known to possess receptors for LH/hCG and receptors of the beta-adrenergic type. Interactions of specific agonists with either receptor lead to the activation of adenylate cyclase and subsequently to an increase of cAMP.

Synthesis of the C′D′E′F′ Domain of Maitotoxin [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2010
A devised biomimetic strategy toward the C'D'E'F' domain (6) of maitotoxin (1) led to hydroxy triepoxide 8 as a postulated polyepoxide precursor. However, all attempts to induce the desired cascade to form the targeted compound through a zip-type reaction under neutral or acidic conditions failed, prompting adoption of a linear stepwise approach to 6 ...

P2X receptors: epithelial ion channels and regulators of salt and water transport. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
When the results from electrophysiological studies of renal epithelial cells are combined with data from in vivo tubule microperfusion experiments and immunohistochemical surveys of the nephron, the accumulated evidence suggests that ATP-gated ion ...

Alternative method to detect compounds produced by Gambierdiscus spp.

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2014
Ciguatoxins (CTXs) and CTX precursors are produced by several Gambierdiscus spp. These polyether toxins are associated to ciguatera fish poisoning (CFP). In addition to CTX, maitotoxins (MTX) and gambierol are also produced by these dinoflagellates.

Glyburide inhibits the Cryopyrin/Nalp3 inflammasome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Inflammasomes activate caspase-1 for processing and secretion of the cytokines interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) and IL-18. Cryopyrin/NALP3/NLRP3 is an essential component of inflammasomes triggered by microbial ligands, danger-associated molecular patterns
