Regulation of MAP kinases by MAP kinase phosphatases

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Cell Research, 2007
MAP kinase phosphatases (MKPs) catalyze dephosphorylation of activated MAP kinase (MAPK) molecules and deactivate them. Therefore, MKPs play an important role in determining the magnitude and duration of MAPK activities. MKPs constitute a structurally distinct family of dual-specificity phosphatases.

ArhGAP9, a novel MAP kinase docking protein, inhibits Erk and p38 activation through WW domain binding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We have identified human ArhGAP9 as a novel MAP kinase docking protein that interacts with Erk2 and p38α through complementarily charged residues in the WW domain of ArhGAP9 and the CD domains of Erk2 and p38α. This interaction sequesters the MAP kinases

Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Cascades in Plant Hormone Signaling

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) modules play key roles in the transduction of environmental and developmental signals through phosphorylation of downstream signaling targets, including other kinases, enzymes, cytoskeletal proteins or ...

ProKinO: an ontology for integrative analysis of protein kinases in cancer. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
BACKGROUND: Protein kinases are a large and diverse family of enzymes that are genomically altered in many human cancers. Targeted cancer genome sequencing efforts have unveiled the mutational profiles of protein kinase genes from many different cancer ...

Growth factors induce nuclear translocation of MAP kinases (p42mapk and p44mapk) but not of their activator MAP kinase kinase (p45mapkk) in fibroblasts

open access: yesJournal of Cell Biology, 1993
Mitogen-activated protein kinases (p42mapk and p44mapk) are serine/threonine kinases that are activated rapidly in cells stimulated with various extracellular signals.

The cartilage chondrolytic mechanism of fibronectin fragments involves MAP kinases: comparison of three fragments and native fibronectin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
SummaryObjectiveTo define the role of mitogen activated protein (MAP) kinases in fibronectin fragment (Fn-f) mediated matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) upregulation and damage to bovine cartilage and to compare activities of three Fn-fs with native ...

MAP kinase and pain [PDF]

open access: yesBrain Research Reviews, 2009
Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) are important for intracellular signal transduction and play critical roles in regulating neural plasticity and inflammatory responses. The MAPK family consists of three major members: extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK), p38, and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), which represent three separate signaling ...

The role of atypical MAP kinase 4 in the host interaction with Cryptosporidium parvum

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Cryptosporidium parvum is an apicomplexan parasite that causes severe zoonotic diarrhea in humans and calves. Since there are no effective treatments or vaccines for infants or immunocompromised patients, it is important to understand the molecular ...

Drug Repurposing and De Novo Drug Discovery of Protein Kinase Inhibitors as New Drugs against Schistosomiasis

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
Schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease affecting more than 200 million people worldwide. Chemotherapy relies on one single drug, praziquantel, which is safe but ineffective at killing larval stages of this parasite.

Activation of mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase by a MAP kinase-kinase.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1992
Previously it has been shown that acute 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate treatment of intact U937 cells results in activation of mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase and a MAP kinase activator. MAP kinase activator induces phosphorylation of MAP kinase on tyrosine and threonine residues, thereby activating MAP kinase.
