Summary of Coastal and Estuarine Monitoring Programs in New Hampshire (2005) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The New Hampshire Estuaries Project (NHEP) compiles data from many coastal and estuarine monitoring programs to assess the status and trends of environmental indicators in the Great Bay and Hampton/Seabrook Harbor.

Electrochemical detection of the toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium ostenfeldii with a DNA-biosensor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The steady rise of observations of harmful or toxic algal blooms throughout the world in the past decades constitute a menace for coastal ecosystems and human interests.

Intertidal Warfare: Synergistic Allelopathy Mediates Spatial Competition between Two Marine Calcareous‐Shelled Sessile Organisms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a hidden chemical weapon among calcareous‐shelled sessile organisms in the intertidal zone: the barnacle Balanus albicostatus releases a synergistic blend of palmitic acid and 1‐palmitoyl‐sn‐glycero‐3‐phosphocholine as the allelochemical with the inhibitory activity against attachment of the mussel Vignadula atrata, which may mediate

Uncovering the Complex Transcriptome Response of Mytilus chilensis against Saxitoxin: Implications of Harmful Algal Blooms on Mussel Populations. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Saxitoxin (STX), a principal phycotoxin contributing to paralytic shellfish poisoning, is largely produced by marine microalgae of the genus Alexandrium. This toxin affects a wide range of species, inducing massive deaths in fish and other marine species.

Chemical Structures, Toxicology, and Biogenetic Origins of Marine Toxins Occurring in Lipid Fractions of Marine Fish and Shellfish.

open access: yesJournal of Japan Oil Chemists' Society, 1997

Halorotetin B, A Novel Terpenoid Compound Derived from Marine Ascidian, Suppresses Tumor Growth by Targeting the Cell Cycle Regulator UBE2C

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Halorotetin B, a novel small‐molecule terpenoid identified from an edible marine ascidian, exhibits strong anti‐tumor activity both in vitro and in vivo through direct targeting UBE2C to induce tumor cell cycle arrest and then lead tumor cell senescence. As a newly discovered UBE2C inhibitor, Halorotetin B can serve as a novel potential cell senescence

Radical‐Mediated, Substrate‐Independent Fabrication of Hybrid Solid–Hydrogel Materials With Tunable Crosslinking: An Initiator‐ and Crosslinker‐Free Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces a substrate‐independent, reagent‐free plasma strategy that forms radical‐rich interlayers for covalent hydrogel attachment without initiators or crosslinkers. The long‐lived radicals drive in situ gelation, creating robust, cytocompatible hybrid solid–hydrogel constructs across diverse substrates.

Xanthatin Targets CISD1 to Drive Ferroptosis and Mitophagy as a Dual Anticancer Strategy in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Triple‐negative breast cancer has a poor prognosis. Xanthatin directly targets and degrades CISD1, triggering ferroptosis through iron dysregulation. The concurrently activated mitophagy synergistically amplifies ferroptotic cell death. Xanthatin also demonstrates potent in vivo anti‐tumor efficacy with minimal toxicity, highlighting its therapeutic ...

Nanoparticle-based lateral flow immunoassays for detecting marine biotoxins in seafood: a systematic review of trends in development over two decades

open access: yesTalanta Open
Marine and freshwater biotoxins threaten public health and seafood safety due to their tendency to accumulate in fish and shellfish. This systematic literature review summarises findings from 51 peer-reviewed studies published between 2004 and 2025 that ...

The Apoptogenic Toxin AIP56 Is Secreted by the Type II Secretion System of Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida

open access: yesToxins, 2017
AIP56 (apoptosis-inducing protein of 56 kDa) is a key virulence factor of Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida (Phdp), the causative agent of a septicaemia affecting warm water marine fish species.
