Plasma matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-1 as prognostic biomarkers in critically ill patients

open access: yesOpen Medicine, 2020
Matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) plays an important role in inflammatory and pathological processes by enabling the inflow of leukocytes to the site of infection or tissue damage.

Osteopontin, a Novel Substrate for Matrix Metalloproteinase-3 (Stromelysin-1) and Matrix Metalloproteinase-7 (Matrilysin) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2001
Osteopontin (OPN) is a secreted phosphoprotein shown to function in wound healing, inflammation, and tumor progression. Expression of OPN is often co-localized with members of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family. We report that OPN is a novel substrate for two MMPs, MMP-3 (stromelysin-1) and MMP-7 (matrilysin).

Matrix metalloproteinases in liver injury, repair and fibrosis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The liver is a large highly vascularized organ with a central function in metabolic homeostasis, detoxification, and immunity. Due to its roles, the liver is frequently exposed to various insults which can cause cell death and hepatic dysfunction ...

A Unique Substrate Binding Mode Discriminates Membrane Type-1 Matrix Metalloproteinase from Other Matrix Metalloproteinases [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2002
In our study, we characterized the substrate recognition properties of membrane type-1 matrix metalloproteinase (MT1-MMP; also known as MMP-14), a key enzyme in tumor cell invasion and metastasis. A panel of optimal peptide substrates for MT1-MMP was identified using substrate phage display.

Expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and 9 with their inhibitors, tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 and 2 in oral lichen planus

open access: yesJournal of Orofacial Sciences, 2014
Objectives: The study aims to explore the expression of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2, -9) and their inhibitors (tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase [TIMP]-1, -2) as well as the correlation between them in the different morphological forms of ...

Histopathologic Findings Associated With Matrix Metalloproteinases Proceeding to Recurrence of Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax in Adolescents

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2021
Background: Primary spontaneous pneumothorax is potentially life-threatening, and its recurrence is always a serious problem. Pathological examination provides molecular insights into the pathophysiology of primary spontaneous pneumothorax. Objectives: To

Enhancement of fibrinogen-triggered pro-coagulant activation of monocytes in vitro by matrix metalloproteinase-9 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background Interaction of fibrinogen with specific leukocyte integrins of monocytes may link coagulation and inflammation, however, the precise mechanism of fibrinogen leading to the pro-inflammatory and pro-coagulatory response on monocytes is yet ...

Matrix metalloproteinases in subjects with type 1 diabetes [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Clinical Pathology, 2009
Abstract Background Nephropathy is serious complication of diabetes. We have previously shown that level of the proteoglycan syndecan-1 in blood is associated with ultrastructural kidney changes in young persons with type 1 diabetes.

Clinical significance of matrix metalloproteinase 9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 and 2 in Kawasaki disease [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Pediatrics, 2010
Purpose : Kawasaki disease (KD) is a systemic vasculitis, a leading cause of pediatric acquired heart disease. Histopathological findings of coronary artery lesion (CAL) in KD indicate destruction of the coronary artery wall with diffuse vasculitis ...
